GAUDIN FOR 5TH STARTER
Well after Gaudin was thrust into the starts roll today to "get arm strength up" to make the bullpen more versatile one thing became abundantly clear. CHAD GAUDIN SHOULD BE THE FIFTH STARTER. I am very confident that Gaudin could go out every fifth day and get 5 innings in without more than 3-4 runs scoring 90% of the time. I can say with a lot of certainty i do not have the same confidence in Kennedy/Windsor/Halsey. I can say Kennedy is a very valuable member of our outstanding bullpen and being able to throw 2+ innings is huge if Gaudin is only asked to give 5-6 innings.
Time to adjust the game plan and go with a Starting group of Haren, Loiaza, Harden, Blanton and Gaudin. Sure it is all righties but the way it is set up you got guys who throw hard, then soft, back to gas, etc. So even though it is an all right handed crew the hitters will see such a variety they won't be able to get there timing down.
Still an incredibly strong pen with Street, Duke, Embree, Calero, Kennedy, Witasick and Marshall. 3 lefties in the pen is a bonus.
At AAA we got emergency starters if needed in Halsey, Windsor, Komine, and by mid season hopefully Meyer. If someone in the pen is injured or traded plenty of canidates in McBeth, Santiaga, Mitchell, Flores, DiNardo, etc. Or just go with 11 pitchers for a while.
Come on Billy and Bob make the right decision CHAD GAUDIN for 5th starter !!!!
