Oakland MLB.com Shop Question
Hey ANers,
I was thinking about buying one of those custom jerseys on the MLB Shop (I am probably going to pick Haren) until I noticed the ugly looking white font that it shows on the back of the jersey.
I don't know if that is how it will look on the back of the jersey or if that is just the stock photo they use to give customers an idea.
Has anyone ever bought a customized t-shirt on this before. Does it look as crappy as it shows or does it actually come in the normal looking way like it would if you bought a chavvy shirt at a game?
Any insight into this would be great, a photo would be perfect.
This is the thing I'm looking at:

Lastly, I am know an official member of Gaudin for fifth starter.

This is what I have, I have one that says "ZONIS", #48.
my advice though is that if you get a custom jersey/shirt, get it with your alias/nickname/name on the back. Because especially with this team and its roster turnover, you might find yourself wearing a Jason Giambi jersey.

For the t-shirts
the name does appear in white letters as shown in the photo. That's pretty dumb considering it should be in yellow, but as Zonis said, to get something nice you have to pay.
But if I were you I would get an actual player's name. No offense to Zonis but I think it's ridiculous to drop $200 for a jersey just to have it say something like "McAllen" or some other name which is not actually a player's. No one wants to know your name, your nickname, or your girlfriend's nickname. Seriously.

I don't think the white looks that bad.
I have a couple of the custom t-shirts with the white letters because the adult sizes are too big for me and I had to custom order the youth/kids sizes in them and I couldn't get who I wanted at the coliseum (there wasn't a small sized Ellis t-shirt ALL of last season) so I ordered it. They are longer in length than the ones with yellow letters anyway (I have some of those, too) so I actually prefer the fit of them to the shorter kids sized ones they sell with the yellow lettering. I'd rather wear a green A's t-shirt with white letters than some of the hideous women's pink stuff they sell, anyway.

Amen...
Please, please, please get a player's name or no name.

my take on a custom jersey w/alias or name
is that if I spend $200 on a jersey, I want to be able to wear that jersey for a long time. And if I get a player jersey, well, that player is likely either to a) go away somewhere (do I even need to say names?) or b) do something stupid that will make me eventually dislike him (both Giambis).
So I believe that when it comes down to shelling out $200 on a custom jersey, you have three choices.
a) Use your own Alias. For example, as I said, I have one that says "ZONIS" on the back. There was a guy on the ESPN Pirates board a long while back that had a really cool one with "DEFDOG" on the back. As long as its unique, you use it a lot and for a long while, it should work.
b) Your own last name. I don't like it as much, because 1) everyone will know your last name, 2) people will get confused if you are using someone who was on the team for 5 minutes or is some unknown player and 3) if your name is the same as a player already, its confusing. Then again, if your name is the same as a player already, it does give it a lasting effect.
c) Choose an All Time Great. A player who will never go out of style. The Popular choice as far as finding retail jerseys is Reggie Jackson. But, for example, you could go with a Rickey Henderson 24 jersey, or if you want to relive the glory days and your name is Raymond, a Dave Stewart jersey.
Personally, I'd go with a first, and c second. But if you don't want to use your own "name", then I say go c, because it will always be in style. Even if the team moves, and/or changes uniforms or colors, it will still be considered retro or throwback, and will still work.

Style?
In my best estimation if you are going to wear a jersey with your name on the back, most people will think you are a dork. This is the first argument I have ever heard suggesting that having your own name, or worse, a nickname on the back of it is the slightest bit cool. But hey, to each there own.
Tejada, Hudson, Mulder? What's wrong with wearing those around. They will always be A's in alot of people's minds. I think the possibility that your jersey will be vintage in 5 years is pretty darn cool.

In my best estimation ...
if you spend much time on a blog, you are a dork.
Those of us who are cool anyway don't mind admitting it.

not to hijack your thread
but I have an A's merchandise question of my own:
Anyone know where I could purchase a fitted A's cap bigger than size 8? I can't fit my misshapen melon underneath the size 8 caps.

Ask Kevin Mench . . .
he knows of all the Melon Head stores.

You might
want to check eBay. That's where I found my Harden and Swisher shirts (with yellow lettering on the back).

T-Shirts
I dont want a custom shirt, I just want to buy a Haren T-shirt jersey for my wife. I'd like the lettering to be gold like the other player T-shirts out there.
At spring training all they had were Street, Swisher, Chavez, & Piazza. I cant even find these on the mlb website. I know Haren T's exist because I saw someone with one on tv.
If anyone has a link I would greatly appreciate it!

I have a Chad Bradford T bought through MLB.com.
From before Arthur Rhodes stole his number. I like the shirt a lot, but the numbers suck. They're heat applied vinyl, so they do not breathe. This is annoying in warm weather. They also start to bubble if you run the shirt through the drier on high.
