Two Peas In A Pod - Selig/Wolff
Good ol' 'Dud Selig' is trying to screw many of us out of viewing MLB games on cable, because, IMO, he is a geedy slimebag.
And I don't think Mr. Wolff is any different with his slimy desire to take the Oakland A's out of OAKLAND!!
These guys don't care about fans... they only care about money. And i'm soooo tired of all the "its a business..." garbage on this site. They don't care about any of us.
It's a business, yes, but it will cease to function (make BIG money), if MLB continues to alienate its fan base.
Selig goes to the "right" (signing up with Murdoch's DirecTV) and Wolff wants to build a stadium in the middle of nowhere; next to toxic sites.
Wake up A's fans. Schott/Hoffman made a profit every year, and sold the franchise for a profit. Also, Wolff/Fisher make money right now, and will make a huge profit if/when the cash out.
What fraternity were the guys in? Alpha Dumba Loser!

I love it when peoples arguments lack logic
and thus resort to name calling. I'm sorry, I know some may still be bitter about the A's moving out of town, but give it up. As far as I know, the city did nothing to keep the team, but its easier to be mad at one particular person (Wolff) than a whole group of lazy politicians.
As for Selig, I think he is a scumbag, I think he is ruining baseball, for more reasons than one. However I wouldn't say those two are exactly alike. You may not like Wolff for moving your team out of Oakland, but hes giving them a better stadium, their own stadium that they don't have to share with a football team. With that comes the possibility of retaining players and giving this franchise the much needed face lift.
Down here in LA we had a similar situation when Moreno tried changing the name of the Angels from Anaheim Angels to Los Angeles Angels just because it would bring in more revenue. Everyone hated him, thought he cared only about the money, so many promised to boycott the Angels games.....and you know what happened? people got over it, cause Anaheim Angels or LA Angels of Anaheim, what mattered was that they could now afford to retain players who had become the face of the franchise (Vlad Guerrero, Francisco Rodriguez).
(gets on soapbox)
Also I know Im going to make some enemies with this but here it goes. Get Over It! The team is moving right down the street from you! Fremont ain't Las Vegas, and it ain't Portland. Next time you think you got it bad, think about all the NRAF's who live hundreds or thousands miles away (yes there are a lot of us) and make the trip to Oakland to watch a game or two every single year. Last time I took the 400 mile trip I slept in my car in some really scary places and busted the transmission, all for my beloved team and if I had to do it all over again I would. It just gets annoying to be sitting hundreds of miles away and hear people crying cause they now have to drive 30 more minutes just to get to the park.
And I know someone will argue that "but its about tradition, I spent the best years of my life there". And for some it is a legitimate argument which I understand, but the memories are with the team, not a huge block of cement. As far as I know memories go like this
"man I remember when Reggie Jackson scored that walk off home run, my dad and I, we hugged because we where so happy"
not like this
"Man I remember when I sat down on that seat, it was the best seat ever, and the snack line - wow, amazing. But the best part of the night was when I went to the urinal, man, lining up like that, side by side with my brethren made me shed a tear"
(off soapbox)

Then don't give them your money
Your specific points have been discussed here many times so I'm just going to make a general comment. If you're dissatisfied with the way you're being treated by a company, then refuse to do business with them. That's what I'm doing with Extra Innings this year. They have until the end of the month to work out an agreement so I could buy it through cable, but that is clearly not going to happen. I hate the arrogant way Major League Baseball has treated its fans in this matter. I will not switch to DirecTV, I will not buy MLB.tv, I will simply do without the out of market games.

I wonder
What was the bitching like the first time the A's moved? Or the second time?

We will never know, because Al Gore wasn't around
to invent the internet yet. Hey, I figured I could beat a dead horse too.

I remember microfilm too...
but only because of the Tim Curry/Whoopi Goldberg scene from National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1.
