Hello fellow ANers...
It seems to have been the longest off season of my life! Looking at my last entry, I was reminded where the hissing sound of air escaping was coming from...oh yeah, the Tigers series. After catching all the home games against the Twins and the hoarse voice that ensued, those games just sent me into a winter-long funk that only the pop of spring training fastballs could awaken me.
Highlights from the past season...
-"Marco"...."Scutaro"! That was an amazing day, the entire crowd chanting for the little engine that could.
-Opening night against the Yankees...only to be blown out! I'm Ron Burgandy? We will miss you Barry Zito?
-Remembering where I was when I heard on the radio we signed Frank Thomas and almost crashing the car...then calling my recently acquired and non-baseball watching wife and trying to relay my disbelief that we got the Big Hurt!
-Getting Curt Young/Zito/Street's autographs before a game!
-Catching almost every remaining home game the last 2 months of the season
-Invited to help hold that giant flag on the field before the playoffs, only to look up and see on the scoreboard that Cory Lidle had died.
Wow! I forgot what an emotional rollercoaster last season was! And my wife became a very knowlegable baseball and a Kendall fan!
This year, new wrinkle. We moved three blocks down the street from the River Cats stadium in West Sac! Guess we will be getting intimately acquainted with the Beane Boys! And while our Left fielder, Menacing bat and Uncle Charlie have moved on, this years crop looks to be promising again. So I will take it upon myself to keep you abreast of the going-ons down SacTown way, as I plan on watching the junior circut quite a bit and catching the Capitol Corridor to as many home games as possible at the Concrete Bowl.
Shannon Stewart...hmmmm....beginning to think that Oakland is the mecca and Billy is the Great Healer...."Give me your sick, your tired...and I will give you rest...and a spot in the lineup!"
