Pitchers and Catchers report, and A's will work on Situational Hitting.
One area in which Geren would like to make some strides: hitting with runners in scoring position. He and new hitting coach Ty Van Burkleo have kicked around a lot of ideas, and Geren plans to have a field set up specifically for situational hitting. The key, according to Geren, will be the mental side of it -- having the right attitude to get the job done. In the past few seasons, Oakland has been prone to long streaks of dismal hitting with men at second or third.

Billy Beane is tired of A's being last team to report.
General manager Billy Beane said he was tired of seeing the A's listed in the paper as the final team to show every year, and, he said, "Historically, we drag our feet out of the gate, so I said to Mickey (Morabito, the A's travel secretary), 'You know what? Let's try something different. Let's not be the last team reporting.'
