This really surprised me. I mean Texas of all places....
I guess he's out for some revenge....

the Rangers offered him $5 million
guaranteed, plus incentives, for one year (pehding a physical), as well as a chance for him to start out DHing if he's not ready to play in the outfield.
According to the report on MLB.com he was apparently about to sign with the Padres for $4 million for one year, when the Rangers' offer was made. I'll bet the extra $$ had more to do with Bradley's decision.
it's about the extra money, but not the $1 m
a guy bradley's age signs a one year contract to boost his value so he can get a bigger and longer-term deal afterwards (like andruw jones).
$1 million is less important than hitting in arlington instead of petco.
Good point on the ballpark effects.
I don't think he could have signed a multi-year deal if he wanted one, though, so I don't think length of contract is a factor in any case.
indeed...
He doesn't have the track record of not violating the league's drug policy.

Too bad. I'd have rather had him in CF ...
... than Bonds at DH and Cust anywhere beyond the infield dirt. Cheaper, too, I'm guessing.
I would've too
cept for the fact you know, that he almost is never on the field.

But, you know, BLB is not a paragon of health,
either.
And I worry about when the body bills will start coming due on his PED abuse in the semi-recent past.

BLB hasn't been on the DL much
in his 20 year career in MLB. By contrast, Bradley has only had one season in his much shorter career that you could say was largely injury-free.
As old as he is, BLB was available more often than not last season -- and would no doubt have played more games had he been a DH.
Only next season matters, and a 20-year timeline
would be mostly wasted. I could say he's averaged 90 games over the last three seasons and be correct, but equally irrelevant since the progression is 14, 130 and 126.
My greater concern is the history of PED-bangers is that they break down irretrievably.
In a slightly related vein, Milton looked substantially heavier to me last year, although it looked more like "pudge" that PEDge. News that he's dropped weight bodes well for the wRanglers.

I really hope Milton can stay healthy enough
to play a full season.
I agree that age and PEDs related health concerns make Bonds a risk to not play enough -- or well enough -- to justify signing him. If any team does sign him they'd be foolish not to make it a heavily incentives laden conract, based not only on his legal troubles but those of health as well.
Si. Say, maybe we should run a contest ...
... for closest to any actual contract terms the A's sign with the Barroid. We could award a bottle of, I dunno, scotch? Jolt Cola? Enzyte?

defunct sodas
I will not participate unless there's bottles of Pepsi One, Vernor's, RC Cola, AND Surge on the line. I might hold out for Mr Pibb too. But man, Surge was the greatest. I felt cool when I drank that in middle school.

Bradley was pretty disgruntled when he left
As willing as Beane is to ignore politics, there was a lot of crazyness in the press from Bradley after his exit.
Revenge?
I guess he's out for some revenge....
What did Texas ever do to him? ;-)

when is he going to be ready to play?
Did he tear his ACL in what, August? I thought that took at least a year to rehab.
bradley is a quick healer
I'm guessing
xbx was being sarcastic, heh

Over and Under....
How many games does Milton actually play for Texas? How many AB's? How many times does he use the DL?
70 games.
300 AB's.
3 times DL. The first to start the season.
Who knows?
It's a shame he can't stay healthy. This last injury was the definition of a freak injury, though. Unless rehab forces him to really improve his conditioning, it will probably be the same. Even then, he just might be genetically prone to muscle pulls and strains...
I'm still a Milton fan, no matter how poorly he's decided to behave at times. I hope he finally stays healthy, and all we have to talk about is his play on the field. He's so ridiculously talented.
Well, I read somewhere that he's lost 15 lbs this
offseason while rehabbing and is working on a better overall conditioning program.
So, I'll take:
- The over on games played, for sure
- The over on ABs
- And the under on DL stints 'cause I'm guessing 2, including probably starting the season there
And I'm still an MB fan, too, and was really hopeful at some point that they'd sign him to a long-term deal and he's stay an A. Well, we all know how that worked out...

My opinion...
when viewed dispassionately, MB is a sympathetic figure. But the seeds of his own destruction are sown deep within himself. Unless he finds away to pluck them up, roots and all, he will continue to be his own worst enemy until he destroys himself.
I don't think he'll ever pluck them up
The question for me is how well can/will he cover them up. By the way, your post read like a cross between the Old Testament and a fortune cookie...interesting.

well, not the entire Old Testament
Your post didn't incorpoate thousands of years worth of myths and history...a verse from it, anyway. Proverbs, probably. Or even the Torah.

against the A's
Any chance Milton plays extra hard against the A's?
definitely
If he strains his oblique striking out against us, this time it's definitely going to be swinging at strike 3, not looking.
Yeah, he'll be pissed off when he goes up against the A's. And that's when he plays his best. Luckily, he doesn't have a very good supporting cast. Should be entertaining to have him in the division, though.

A recipe for disaster
whenever he comes to the Coliseum. You know there will be plenty of A's fans who heckle him mercilessly every time the Rangers come to town, making a Bradley Blowup highly likely. Plus, the Rangers already hate A's fans from all the incidents over the last few years, so that should amplify it a bit. This just seems like bad news, except possibly for Craig Bueno.
A recipe for success
A's fans are too classy for that. He provided some of the most exciting moments for us, and his release was idiotic. It comes down to what he said that pissed off Billy. I wish him the best, and hopefully he gives the texas fans as many good memories as he gave us.
Sadly, I doubt it.
I think he'll hear a lot of boos from A's fans, even though I'll be standing and clapping when he walks into the box.
I agree-ish.
Milton lost me, but I would never boo him. But... I'm afraid the majority of A's fan who he may have similarly lost will disagree with me... :(
A's fans
are not too classy for that. The A's fans on this site may be, but the ones who heckle because it's part of their rights as a fan at the game, or the ones who throw cell phones, they are not too classy for this.
