Quickie DLD 11|9|7
I have here in my hand...
It's all over the blogosphere, so you've probably already seen it, but the Mitchell report allegedly contains the names of 11 free agents. Or not.
Warming up the hot stove
John Heyman at SI.com speculates on what the top FAs should expect to command.
There are several ways to assess the lack of depth and talent of the free-agent class, but perhaps Indians general manager Mark Shapiro said it best: "My reaction to the free-agent market is, I'm glad we're not in it.''
Manny selling Manny's Car
On eBay. Got $40,100.00?
The Alou's Aren't
They're really Rojas'. I did not know that. From THT.
It's against conventional wisdom
The women who were most fertile at the time of the experiment walked with fewer hip movements and with their knees closer together.
How come nobody ever asks me to participate in experiments like this?
I can bearly believe it
A brawny thief smashed through a minivan's window yesterday, took the vehicle on a short ride and dumped it on the side of the road before fleeing on foot into the woods, township police said. Police have described the suspect as a black bear.
Feel free to post any links you find below. Unless you're Poppy, who for some reason insists upon posting links in day old DLDs.

yeah
If you had put my link in the subject, it would have been like this DLD was the same as mine from a few days ago. But that would have blown everyone's mind and we'd all have to take a nap.
< snerk >
"put my link in the subject"
You charge for quickies?
Thunderbutt seems to be giving quickies away for free, at least to women who aren't ovulating.
The article on the Alou family is confusing
in Spanish one's family names are written with the father's family name first, then the mother's. If Felipe's name was indeed Felipe Alou Rojas, that means his father's last name was Alou and his mother's was Rojas. Therefore, it is correct to refer to him as Felipe Alou, or as Felipe Alou Rojas, but not as Felipe Rojas.
While it's true that some people prefer to use their mother's family name, that would not be their legal name in any Spanish-speaking country unless they legally changed it.
I think that part's a mistake
Baseball-reference and wikipedia both list his name as Felipe Rojas Alou.
The author also forgot about Gus/Buddy/David/Mike Bell, another three-generation family to go with Ray/Bob/Bret/Aaron Boone. And now I notice he also misspelled Bret Boone's first name some of the time.
I checked on some Spanish language sites
his name is Felipe Rojas Alou, as you said. It happens very, very often that in the US the second family name is mistaken for the legal last name. That's probably what happened to Felipe (and to his sons, who wouldn't have the Alou name at all unless their mother's first family name happened to be Alou).
I remember when José Uribe first began playing for the Giants they were calling him José González, since his full name is José Uribe González. However, very early on he was able to make sure that they change that to Uribe.
It is actually more common in Spanish speaking countries to use both family names. However, that causes problems in the U.S. (I know, I've had to resort to hyphenating my last name, even though it's not supposed to have a hyphen!)
I am such a tool
I missed the DLD train by, I dunno, 15 minutes
Will delete and re-post here momentarily
And wtf is today's date?
And why did I post that as a reply?
My birthday is next week!
I'm really bummed that I missed Thanksgiving, though.
ok... it was a little bit too quickie
Aaaaw, now it's fixed
and I look like a bigger moron than usual. Nap time.
That is why you don't mention things in the main
diary, cause when it is changed, your comments make no sense, now we have your non-sensical ramblings about what date today is, when we can all see by the DLD Title, is is 11/9/07

Aaw!
That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me today! It implies that my comments make sense the rest of the time!
That's a stretch.
Kinda like Matt Holliday seeking first base.

"It's Friday" Link Dump
When I was in high school, my friends always re-enacted this conversation from the movie Friday, you know, the one ...
I laughed as if I'd seen the movie, but I really hadn't. Oh well.
Umm ... let's see ... this looks A's-related.
I'm too tired to find a bunch of interesting and topical links.
(That last part can be sung to the tune of the 'binary solo' in Flight of the Concords' The Humans Are Dead. )
Friday
I like that movie.

I promise, no video!
A fascinating article about college chess that among other things reveals the two universities that are competitive chess powerhouses -- they're not what I'd expect.
Of course, there is nothing funny about drunk driving. Except when you get caught because you stopped at a garage sale.
There is a positive side to the WGA strike -- very few episodes of Frank TV were actually completed.
And here is the heartwarming story of one man's dream home, shaped like a giant toilet. It will open on Sunday, just in time for the General Assembly of the World Toilet Association.
how many ANers did I skunk with the DLD today?

The reason I was so interested in the video problem is that I have just started webmastering a forum of my own. Something was broken here, and I wanted to know how it had gotten out of sync. It made no difference who the user was. I thank andeux for pointing out the problem.
Sure enough, on my site last night somebody posts a gorgeous photo. Problem is, it's about 1600 x 1200 which blows out the right side of the screen and causes that problem AN used to have where you have to scroll horizontally to read all the text in the thread. I'm looking at software mods today.
I didn't think you were blaming me
I have absolutely no HTML skills to be proud of. If it weren't for the auto-linking programs in AN 2.0, I'd never post anything at all.
I understand that mikeA ...
... has to "scroll horizontally" when he "puts his link in the subject."
I'm just glad my toilet at home
doesn't have arms like that one. That'd freak me out a little.
You don't want
your toilet giving you a reacharound?
Actually, I'm surprised that some of the Japanese toilet manufacturers haven't added that feature yet.

Is your toilet running?
Yes,
Well then go catch it.

Though it seems like staying home the rest of the semester and taking tests in an office is a bit much if it's not true.... I'm just sayin'....
It takes a while to heal from that kind of thing.
Whichever.
