Okay, so now I know...
When it comes to winning a Gold Glove while only playing a partial season, the difference lies somewhere between 98 (2005 Torii Hunter) and 90 (2007 Eric Chavez).

(number of games played, that is)

Not that they consider offense, wink wink...
In 2005, Hunter batted .269/.337/.452 with 14 HR.
In 2007, Chavez batted .240/.306/.446 with 15 HR.

Also, thank you, Baseball Reference
For letting me know that Torii Hunter's middle name is Kedar.

If I hadn't read that book so long ago,
I'd know if that joke was funny. :P

Yay Beltre!
I saw as many Mariners games as A's games this year. Even aside from the question of playing time, Beltre showed better defense than Chavez this year. Chavez was still good, but not as good as he used to be.
Chavez is still my favorite player on the A's, and I'm rooting for him to win the GG back next year. But I want him to do it by showing the play that earns it. Beltre earned it this year.

Yeah, yeah, I know.
I felt the same way about Orlando Hudson 2 years ago... I'm really not that biased... ;)

These are actually not horrible
although, much as I knew it was inevitable, the omission of Ellis still irks me. He's had two historically amazing defensive seasons at second base and gotten absolutely zero recognition for it.
Otherwise, the only really egregious decisions seem to have been leaving out Granderson (much superior to Ichiro or Hunter) and including Andruw Jones. Chase Utley should have won the NL 2nd base GG, but that one's not absurdly outrageous.

I know that Brandon Phillips ...
plays for a team that doesn't get much praise but I thought he should have gotten a gold glove.
990 FP , 8 errors, 113 DPs, 341 POs in 156 games.
And Ellis being left off of the list once again ticks me off.
What are Mark's numbers Versus Polanco?

There are a bunch of fielding metrics
all of them have MaEl #1 for 2007, most of them by a pretty wide margin.

DId I miss an AN reference to this site?
(It may have been in a DLD over here, but I've been so fascinated by the "good sportswriting" and potential 2008 schedule threads that I haven't been reading everything else AN as closely as I should...)
