Open World Series Thread: Game 3 - Red Sox at Rockies
Yeah, this series appears to be over. But who knows, perhaps a dribbler goes between Ortiz's legs tonight and it becomes a series?
Josh Fogg takes on Dice-K and the starting lineups look like this:
Red Sox
Ellsbury
Pedroia
Ortiz
Ramirez
Lowell
Drew
Varitek
Lugo
Matsuzaka
Rockies
Matsui
Tulowitzki
Holliday
Helton
Atkins
Hawpe
Torrealba
Sullivan
Fogg
I just don't want the quick series we're all expecting at this point.

Yorvit Torrealba
has the ideal name for the unique vocal stylings of the Rockies' public address announcer.
Let's go Rockies!
I'm thinking it's going to be a good game tonight. Just have this feeling. I hope I'm right!
afternoon nap?

Yeah, actually.
I had to work early OT today. But the dream I was referring to was the waking one that I just had, where there were two game threads, one of which was posted by some stranger...
Should Ellsbury's hit have been foul?
I'm confused, because it looked to me like it hit behind home plate.
The Rockies Need to Win at Least Once...
Because I have Game 5 tickets and fly in Sunday night. Can you imagine the horror if they were totally useless?
Ah that would suck.
And I'm jealous. We couldn't get tickets :(
Don't be TOO jealous.
They were VERY expensive. We've been planning this Colorado trip for months, and the Rockies' run to the WS has been quite coincidental.
Ah well OK then
Hopefully the game is played and you have fun :)
There are way the hell too many Sox fans in CO.
this is why we should sign bonds
two infield hits in the first inning against the best defensive team ever assembled or whatever.
where's your defense now, mikeA?
Nice K
Phew. No score after top of the first.
After the first two reached, I thought this would get ugly quick.
Have the Rockies been wearing the WS patches
on the fronts of their jerseys all the time, and I just now noticed it? Looks cheesy.
Woo hoo!
Way to start it out, Kaz!
hahaha
JD Drew sucks. Good times.
:clap clap clapclapclap clapclapclapclap:
TULO!
urmmm
nevermind.
WOOHOO!
Nice play!!
Huh?
I thought they were talking earlier about how he has to mix it up and he doesn't rely on fastballs? Now they're saying he needs to stick to the fastball? I'm confused.
Here we go again...
Runners on the corners, no outs. Come on, Rockies! You're embarrassing us!
Like it wasn't bad enough
we had to get the bullpen percussionists again.
Daisuke more of a threat
than Crosby with the bases loaded!
He drives in two with a decent swing.

Yuck
I go to take a shower and come back to THIS?! I'm so over this World Series. Thanks for showing up, Rockies. :(
nice to see losing the DH
worked so well against the Red Sox
egad
I had a business call that took me away
from the game -- which was scoreless at the time -- for about half an hour.
Just got back -- WTF happened?
See yesterday's DLD
It has Dane Cook in it!

Now the city of Boston
is going to have world championship caliber teams in football, baseball, and basketball...plus the bruins aren't so bad...Boston is definitely becoming the new New York

Not only are they all world championship caliber
They're all easily the favorites to win it all in all of their leagues. Ridiculous.
Not in basketball.
The Celtics still have Detroit and Chicago to contend with in the East. I would say they are likely to be ranked 3rd in preseason polls.
Can we petition to change leagues?
Even if it means the Jack Cust Outfield Adventure continues, it'd be worth shooing-into the Crapoffs.
Interestingly Arizona has been asked
to switch to the AL West, but they have turned down MLB repeatedly.
Having Colorado in the AL West makes more sense. Seattle would have one more closer destination regularly scheduled, and people in Colorado hate Texans (last time I heard) so they would have a built-in interest in having the Rangers in town a lot.

just like the last 3
13 total games out of a possible 21
yawn
The fact it's Boston makes it worse.
I'm glad it's not the Yankees, but not much more glad.
sadly
they've both had plenty to brag about lately
though the Yankees themselves won't allow anyone to believe that...still, hard to argue with making the playoffs every year since '95
Yeah the Yankees
have had great success but if you converse much with their fans they sound like the fans of Pittsburgh.
That tells you
that the season is too long.
SF Chronicle's Bruce Jenkins is on the "bandwagon" to get the regular season to end September 20th. I agree. With the money these guys are getting, they should be able to play more doubleheaders.
The drawn-out playoff schedule means the final series is just a blow-out, one way or another. Last year, it was Tiger pitchers throwing away the ball for errors. This year, a suspect pitching staff goes way below their potential, and the hitters watch and join the down spiral in performance.
Again, IMO, it's playing ball in cold weather, six months after the start of a season, that's reduced it to an unwatchable debacle.
I see Youkalis looking dressed like a dogsled musher, while the commissioner is dressed like it's 82 degrees.

The season is too long.
Not that I don't enjoy the extra baseball. But I agree...baseball is not meant to be played this late into the year. Not a cold weather sport.
It's now 36 degrees and 81% humidity
in Denver. Now that! is even cold for football.
And Bud Selig is sitting there in a light sportcoat and no hat. Whadda BS guy.

I'm as big a baseball fan as anyone
but if you're going to drag out postseason for over a month, with my team not involved, the games had better be pretty compelling.
My totally unrealistic solution is that there should only be 4 teams in postseason...each league would have two divisions of 7 or 8 teams each, and only the division winners would make the playoffs. Once they brought teams 5 through 8 into the playoffs, obviously there is no going back.
Enjoy the rest of the baseball game...I'm watching Cal at ASU.
Future outstanding trivia question
What AL pitcher had more RBI in a WS than any opposing NL player?
"Inconceivable", as Wally Shawm might have said in "The Princess Bride". (Well- he did say that- more than once).
that bit Wally Shawn did in that movie
was a really funny segment. I never get tired of it.
(the movie is on about six times a year.)

Nice
I switched back from the Cal game just in time!
Cal vs. World Series
This is one time I wish I had picture in picture.
Stick that F'n thing out there
Time for 8 consecutive HBPs.
3 RUN HOMER!!!!
The Rockies are in this thing. 6-5 baby.
Agree
at long last..the three-run jimmyjack.

Oh yeah!
Take that, Fox Graphics Department!
RALLY KILLER!
wow, even todd helton got a hit
ellsbury and pedroia have no fear
just a couple of 24-year olds taking over this Series.
Well, that just sucked
And I see Cal is now losing as well.
I kept trying to tell myself that I would miss being able to watch baseball, even games like this, for the next five months. But I failed to convince myself.
WS1 323 posts, WS2 212, WS3 85
At this rate, tonight's thread may be limited to only negative commentary, but I'll leave the statistical jocularity to salb (and depend on Poppy to admit that neither of us got the joke).
I'm not even gonna watch Game 4.
I told myself I wouldn't watch Game 3, either... and actually didn't watch all of it... but I'm not going to watch any of Game 4. I have better things to do than watch Boston win again.
I started to create a DLD this morning
Is there any unwritten rule against doing one on the weekend in the off-season?
waiting for librarian
to admonish idiot on nearby table for playing games on is laptop with volume rather high....he is wearing a dodger cap.
Hopefully Rocks can pull a game out their hat this evening....last night was woeful when combined with stupid Cal team-coaching fiasco.
after this on to see Darjelling Express if my timing is right.
