Another GM Bites the Dust? Bill Stoneman steps down!
Bill Stoneman, GM of the Angels, is stepping down it seems, making this one of the most bizzare offseasons I've ever heard about. Not only have we seem something like 1/3rd of MLB GM's step down, but its all the good ones...
Stoneman, 62, is planning to move to a consultant's position with the club. His four-year contract expired with the 2007 season but includes a mutual option allowing him to stay beyond '07 as either a GM or a consultant.
Angels spokesman Tim Mead would neither confirm nor deny the expected impending front-office changes.
Stoneman's replacement as GM was not immediately clear, but it is believed that the Angels are looking at Tony Reagins, currently their director of player development, to succeed Stoneman.

I have a hard time believing
That with these good GM's who are stepping down to take some other job with the organization that anything will ultimately change in terms of the decision making process. All trades and final decisions will likely go through the same process and be presented to the same people, you just have a different figurehead in place. A lot like the Beane/Forst situation without anything official being announced..
Why?
Stoneman is 62, has a WS ring and quite a bit of success. Maybe he wants to take it easier and spend more time indulging in his hobbies, whatever they are, or his (grand)kids etc.
