Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Super Bowl Sunday

We have now arrived at the worst two weeks in sports. With Baseball set to low, Football has gone now as well. For the next two weeks we get the pseudo-sport "Super Bowl Hype". Endless talk about every aspect of the game. A game which rarely, and how could it, live up to the hype. Whether you care or not, many still watch - friends, fun and food. It's also time for the least sports savvy person in your company to win the pool. Super Bowl Hype invades every corner of popular culture, it is very hard to avoid. So good luck. The best thing is that once it's over, it's baseball. I wonder though, how do YOU spend the greatest sports day? I tend to stay home, around noon I prepare a Homer Simpson worthy amount of Nachos and start drinking. Usually margaritas, on the rocks. I catch the first 5 minutes, fall asleep and wake up for at least half of the 4th quarter. What a great day!

I TiVo it
And fast forward the game to the commercials and half time show.

Actually, I try and go to parties. The game is so much more fun when you watch it with friends. I mostly just TiVo it incase there is a commercial I miss due to conversation/drinking that has distracted me.

That's hysterical...
"I Tivo it in case there's a commercial I miss..."

But I know exactly how you feel... LOL

Last couple of years' ads have been really boring.  The only one I liked was the guy with the cat and the spaghetti sauce, and I can't even remember what the commercial was FOR (it wasn't for pet products or spaghetti sauce)...

I TIVO it as well.
However the idea is to SKIP the commercials.

Actually
It became a habit after one year when I knew I was going to a party and my PR teacher had us writing papers on the commercials. So I didn't want to miss something important. So I recorded it. Since then I have found serious value in recording it.

I did my paper on a Budwiser commercial and got an A+!! I was rather proud of that paper!

You pretty much have to watch
the SuperBowl with friends, its hard to sit through a 4 hour 30 min + game without some friends and things to chat about in between the million commercials.

The playoffs were the same. Pats Colts game was around 4 hours and 30 minutes, as was the Pats Chargers games. I was glad I was with friends because I kept asking myself "When is this going to end?"  Makes Trachsel look like a speed demon.

It's become my Income Tax Day
I just don't have the interest to sit through the whole game, with friends or not.  I start TurboTax at kickoff with the game in the background and I'm usually done by the end of the 3rd quarter.  If it's a good game I'll watch the rest.

I go skiing.
The three least crowded days on the slopes: Dec 26, Jan 1, and the Super Bowl.

When I went to school in Arizona, I would go to the Phoenix Open. Sitting in the grandstand at the 16th tee with a beer in each hand all day will make you forget about anything football. If you've been, you know exactly what I'm talking about. ;)

you need an option for
the gambling man (or woman).  this is one of the greatest days to lay some bets, friendly or otherwise.  it's especially fun when youre at a party because then you can get a big pool going.

and let's not forget betting on which type of commercial comes on next...the ultimate enjoyment

Tradition is a combo
SB/birthday party at a friend's, with a game of touch football with the kids present at halftime (that's how I managed to miss Janet's disrobing).  I think the games have actually been better over the past several years than they used to be, with some close finishes and always the drama of who wins the squares.
