I think Macha wants more than one
lefty in the pen. If he gets his way, I expect the second lefty to be Halsey. Who does he knock off? Gaudin.

No way does he knock off Gaudin.
I would be shocked.
"The first night, we were right there," Bradley said. "All we needed was a couple of touchdowns, and we would have had them."

if he gets two lefties
who do you think would get knocked off then?

I have been thinking about this
Hello, I have been visiting my Mother in Dublin California since the end of August but I am coming back to London this upcoming Tuesday Morning. I have been thinking of trying to locate a pub that will be showing the playoffs and staying open late enough to see all of it. Where in London will you be staying? I am almost certain at least one pub will be showing the playoffs in the West End. There are like 500,000 expatriate Americans in London but I am convinced I am the only A's fan. So, two TV networks show Baseball games in the UK Channel 5 and North American Sports Network or NASN (NASN is only on Sky satellite which seems to be airing to divisional games a day). I will keep you up to date to any Baseball related events in London this week if you want.

London details
I will be in Canary Wharf; I figured to be travelling to the West End or Oxford St. area to watch the games anyway.  There are a lot of bars that carry NASN, according to their web site.  Feel free to contact me if you cement any plans- crescent22@yahoo.com

London
If the A's are playing in the day all the time, you wouldn't need the bar to be open forever.  If they play at 1pm Pacific, that's 9pm in London.  Figure some bars will stay open to broadcast the Yankees or Mets though.

They start 1 PM Eastern
It'll be a great occasion to meet at a pub after work!  6 PM, right?

When the game is in Minnesota, that is...
When they play here, it's a 1 PM Pacific start.

Cool you will be close by
I live just 8 minutes from Canary Warf. I am 3 blocks from the Devons Road DLR station which is 4 stations away. There are a few bars pubs and restaurants in the area that may show it. I am up to meet up with any Baseball fans in London instead of watching the game on my computer or in my flat. I am trying to find out if there is any organised events in London but still have not found any yet. How long are you in the UK for? I will PM you with any details.

I actually think you nailed it
Although in the next round-- with left handed bats such as Giambi, Matsui and Abreu if it is NY and mauer and Morneau if it is the Twins-- I think he will go with the extra lefty. but I believe you can change from series to series or invent an injury to make a shift.

Eligibility
Players have to be on the 25 man roster before rosters expand on Sept. 1 in order to be eligible to make the postseason rosters.  This excludes players such as Jimenez, Bocachica, and Flores.  However in the case of an injury to a player that caused them to be placed on the 60-day DL you can replace said player with anyone that plays the same position, regardless of them making the August 31 deadline.  Either Crosby or Perez would have to be 60-day DLed to make room for Jimenez, however I don't think we have anyone that would clear a space for Bocachica unfortunately.  I'm not sure who is going to take that spot you've got Bocachica in, but I do think that unfortunately Cupcakes doesn't make the roster to make room for another lefty, probably Balsey.

Gaudin
did not help himself tonight. He's walked two batters for every three innings-- I'd rather have Blanton in the pen than him. And maybe Halsey, too.

SSS
Gaudin is a better short term relief guy than Halsey or Blanton.  Last Night doesn't matter.

It sounds like we'll carry 11 pitchers:

  1. Zito
  2. Loaiza
  3. Harden
  4. Haren
  5. Street
  6. Duke
  7. Calero
  8. Gaudin
  9. Blanton
  10. Kennedy
  11. Saarloos or Halsey

Great points
on the eligibility.  I had totally forgotten about that.  Hard to imagine all the writers forgot too when they were penning about Bocachica being the last man.

I'm not so sure
Looking back I think I may be wrong, the injured player replacement may go something like an injured pitcher has to be replaced by another pitcher and an injured position player be replaced by another position player, no rules about playing the same position.  Also the 60-day DL may not play a part in this either, it may just be a 15-day DL thing. One more thing to complicate things further, the replacement player must have been on the 40 may roster prior to September 1st, I'm not so sure Jiminez or Bocachica were, someone can correct me on that one.

If Jimenez
was outrighted on 8/31 to make room for Dan Johnson, he wouldn't have been on the 40-day roster.  This is weird.  Maybe Jimenez and Bocachica will appear on the postseason roster, and we won't know why- it will just happen and leave us explaining for ourselves.

by athletics02115 on Oct 1, 2006 7:42 AM PDT reply actions

This is what I think now
Bocachica was on the 40-man roster the whole time-Lots of people were- even Mike Rouse and Jeremy Brown were on 9/1.

Jimenez was outrighted 8/31 to make room for Dan Johnson but because it takes 72 hours to clear waivers, he was still considered on the 40-man roster on the 9/1 drop-dead date.

DJ
Then, Why was it so important to have DJ on the 25-Man Roster on August 31st/Sept 1st?
