I have a meeting
that I HOPE ends by 5 pm. If it doesn't drag on too long I'll go downtow to the rally...

(oh, and note to Lou Wolff: Oakland has a downtown.World Series parades have been celebrated there four times. So your comment to Fosse during Thursday's game as you got up that you don't know where you'd have a victory parade betrays at the very least some ignorance about the city of Oakland...)

Lew Wolff doesn't care about Oakland
Wolff lives with his wife, Jeane, in the Westwood section of Los Angeles.

Lew's thinking: Los Angeles doesn't have a downtown.

by freddy on Oct 1, 2006 3:19 AM PDT up reply actions

if he thinks that
he doesn't know Los Angeles -- which does have a downtown.

Lew Wolff knows Oakland...
it's just that he's thinking of having the parade in Fremont.

Or San Jose.

I was being charitable
I know damn well why Wolff isn't mentioning Oakland

lew wolff
yeah i heard him say on the telecast earlier this week w/ fosse, "we'll have to figure out where to put the parade."

'72, '73 and '74 there were parades down broadway in downtown oakland. in 1989 i dont think they had a parade because of the earthquake but i do believe there was a celebration rally at jack london square.

you're right about 1989
there was some serious damage on Broadway because of the quake...which has long since been fixed.

Good thing it starts at 5 pm
That way everyone can still get a good night's sleep and get up early enough for the flippin' Tuesday morning playoff game.

Thanks, MLB, for putting us in oblivion for the playoffs.  10 AM Tuesday, 10 AM Wednesday, 1 PM Friday.  It would be much better if they just played later in the day, even if it meant having 2 or 3 games going on at the same time.

On the bright side, I'm glad it's
only a Friday day game, instead of Tuesday/Wednesday.  We have a slight chance of getting better attendance on Friday than we would've otherwise (see Minnesota series in '02 for typical midweek day game turnout)

by Rickeyfan on Oct 1, 2006 11:54 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, I have tickets
but no way I'd be able to make a Tuesday day game, and Wednesdays are also tought. Friday is the only weekday that I can easily arrange to take off.

I would have had to literally BEG...
...possibly with actual tears... to get tomorrow and/or Wednesday off work.  Friday was much easier...  :)

So I guess instead your employer gets
the sort of high productivity on Tuesday and Wednesday that he's come to expect from you during ultra-crucial A's day games.

Same here.  If I'm still employed by this time next week it'll only be because of inertia.
