ESPN: The Wave Anniversary

Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of The WAVE: Krazy George Henderson will be in attendance during the A's vs. Angels game on Friday, September 22 for an ESPN special which will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the WAVE. Krazy George started the first WAVE on October 15, 1981, during the League Championship Series game between the A's and the Yankees.
-------
Sort of glad I will miss this game. Friday games are a real hassle to get to anyway. I am not much of a fan of the wave. When the crowd is all chanting Let's go Oakland, the team can hear our energy directed to them. With the wave I think it is a distraction, the fans are more intent on the wave the action on the field. It really gnaws me when the wave is running at a fairly tense moment. Now on this Friday, in a game Oakland really needs to win, there is going to be lots of focus on the wave, who needs it. How do you feel?

Is this true?
I've always heard that there is much dispute about the origin of the wave. See here:

Is ESPN saying that it definitely started in Oakland?

The wave, the Angels, and ESPN.
The triple crown of stupidity descends on Oakland tomorrow night.

"It really gnaws me when the wave..."
"...is running at a fairly tense moment."

Amen to that.  The only fans that do the wave know nothing about the game.

Hard work never hurt anyone, but I'm not taking any chances.

Really?
'Cause I've participated in the Wave on occasion and here I thought I knew a thing or three about the game of baseball.
Why yes. I am a ray of warm and fuzzy sunshine.

would have been more in keeping with the oceanic metaphor.

I remember participating in a huge wave
back in 87-88 at the Coliseum, so it used to be fashionable (like rubix cubes, pegged pants, and garbage pail kids).

BTW the wave attempt last night was pretty sad. Kind of hard to do the wave with so many empty seats.

Q: Why is he called the Big Hurt? A: Because he hurts the ball.

Remember the "No Wave" sign?
It used to be posted on the Jumbotron during the late 80's, early 90's.

I thought it was hilarious last night
They first tried to go clockwise, but because they were starting in about section 230, they couldn't get it to go past the LF bleachers (YAY bleacher crew!).  So they tried starting it in the other direction, away from the bleachers, and it still wouldn't catch on...  :-D

She was
chugging pretty hard though up those sections to get it going. Have to commend her risiliance. But, yes, I wasn't in the mood at the time.

since i was at the game
oct 15th 1981 bummer loss to a beatable yankees team and i don't remember ever thinking "what's that wave thing i've never seen it before" i'm gonna guess crazy george is well, you know. but, credit to him if he can make such a claim and earn a buck from it. he did make the first crop circles, however.

Glad you warned us
I'll be at the Coliseum tomorrow. I do hate the wave. If there's a lot of attention going to be paid to it, at least I know it's coming... I feel a rant coming on. Better stop now

I don't 'hate' the wave...
...but after seeing it 5 million times, I'm just not impressed by it anymore.

Personally
I think it's fun for the kids... and at a young age they don't really udnerstand what the big deal is about being 5 runs down against a rival. so hell, give em something fun and something they'll remember.

Yikes
I don't like the sound of "five runs down".
