***UPDATED*** Card Stunt Party diary
Anyway, the paper is going to be delivered to eamb's house tomorrow, so we're set for Saturday! Total cost for the paper, including tax, came to a shade over $170.00 ($171.83, to be precise), and I'd really appreciate any little donations anyone is willing to make. If you want to use PayPal, my account is the same as the email address that's in my AN profile: distantsun7@gmail.com. Or if you just want to hand me some spare change if you see me at eamb's or in Anaheim, that's good, too... thanks for whatever you can do to help... :)
As originally brought up by TrojaNoava in this diary (AN Invades Anaheim: Card Stunts!) and has been discussed further in this diary (AN weekend in Anaheim) by Rickeyfan, folks are organizing to pull off some AN card stunts.
If you're not sure of what card stunts are, you can read about them here or here.
BBG organized a SoCal AN Day for next Saturday's A's Vs. Halos game in Anaheim. There will be over 70 A's fan in attendence! As 'Noava has diagramed, we will need to produce the 70 cards that will make up the card stunts and get them to those that will be in attendance. I've volunteered my house to get the job done this weekend, but I'll need some help from people that have the time. Poppy has offered to bring the completed signs with her to SoCal AN Day in her shiny Accord, (provided they actually fit). Here's what I propose...
This Saturday morning, September 23rd, we'll have a get-together at my house in Oakland. The earliest we get started the better, so if you're planning on coming, try to get there by 10am . We'll make the tiles, and if folks who aren't attending the game in person would like to stay over to watch on TV, that's welcomed.
Some bullet points.
- My place is in West Oakland, directions upon confirmation.
- We have dogs, two large german shepherd mix's and a puppy. If you're afraid of dogs, I would recommend you skipped participating as the shepherds can be a little rambunctious. For that reason, I'd have to strongly discourage anyone bring over small children. But trust me, they won't hurt anyone.
- I'll have the BBQ going for the game, so please feel free to bring over anything you'd like burned to a crisp. Ditto for drinks, please feel free to bring whatever you like.
- I'll need to confirm you by e-mail, so if you'd like to attend, please e-mail me: weshouldplaymoreshows@yahoo.com
- Check back here for updates, as there might be some financial assistance needed for supplies, I'll know more once we price out the materials.
Go A's!

Oh crap.
Definitely post the final results of your price research... I can chip in a little.
Email is on the way :)
And if there is anyone going back...
Another idea...could we do this after the game, eamb? I'm just wondering if 3 hours will be enough time to get these made? Or maybe before AND after the game? I'm willing to buy pizza for dinner. :)
And last thing: If you have purchased a ticket on your own for the Saturday game in Anaheim near us, can you post in this diary so we can include you in the card stunt?
For some reason, my count is only 63 tickets for that game, but I know there were people who added on after the initial ticket-buying.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to this Sat's game
Would you mind bringing my Anaheim tickets with you (remember how I didn't want them mailed in case we didn't clinch)? I'm feeling bold now... LOL
It's going to be tight
We should be able to get you a ride to BART from my place, which will take you directly to the game.
I'm in for helping
How about making the Frank Thomas Sign?
You know, the one that has his place in HR and RBI History...Please????

I think this is really cool
I'll share the pictures I took...
Can't make it
I second pickinmachine's comment on the coolness of this endeavor.
<sob>
Once we get some prices, we can use my PayPal account (which I have a credit card attached to) if people want to do any donating to the cause. I'm totally willing to help out financially.
Save the Whales? Nope. Let's get on ESPN!!!
Let's paint some WHALES!
I call the Scioscia whale!

Don't need foam
The cards are pieces of card stock, around 12"x12", with each side having a different color. Depending on what the stunts are displaying, there may be as many as 5 cards (10 colors). Here is a picture of the cards. Since the diagrams indicate that only green and gold are being used, only a single card/person would be needed.
Included with the cards are two sheets of paper: One shows what the stunts are intended to depict. The other is specific for that card's position in the stunt, as it tells that person which card to hold up when. For example, one of these might say:
Row 4, seat 5
- Blue
- Yellow
- Yellow
- White
- Brown (when 'C' is called) <<--- For a motion stunt
Card stock
Would it work
the idea
not to poop on your idea, though. it is a good one in so much that no one has suggested the science fair thingies...
oh, and yeah, you guys are going to be holding the cards with the lines parallel to your arms, ie on the sides, not on corners.
:)
Ummm
Also, I was indicating holding them on the corners would make them more stable. Not that anyone would hold them at a "diamond" angle. Obviously they will be held parallel to the ground, one arm would be just be raised higher than the other while holding them.
I'm just trying to suggest something that would be cheap, easy, and fast. Not much time left to do this thing.
Yes!
poster board
http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?level=SK&id=528064&No=20&Nr=200000&N=201273& An=browse
Each side would be $.89 so for each seat we would be talking $1.78 times 70 seats = $125 plus tax. WE could blade cut them down to 22 x 22 for a square effect. Emerald green and lemon yellow? I think Office Depot will deliver next day. Or if it took more than 24 hours for delivery, we scrap Saturday and do maybe a construct during a Mariners/A's game next week one evening?
Staples has similar poster boards: http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StaplesProductDisplay?prodCatType=0&storeId=100 01&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&productId=10507&cmArea=SEARCH
I don't know if these would be stiff enough. But to me, blading and stapling sounds much easier than painting.
Exactly
Rickey, 'Noava...
Let me check University Art for something bigger
There's also a store in San Carlos called TekAid where I've bought art supplies before, I'll see what they suggest (uh, if they're still there, that is).
OK awesome
Maybe the Stanford Band...
Sounds alright to me
whatever works for you guys
But yeah, I don't need to be making your guys' lives more hectic than it has to be. Whatever floats your witch :)
Is 12x12 big enough??

I can't come to the par-tay, but...
*Magic #: 6!*
What shape is our 70-ticket bloc?
Like, ferinstance
35 MVP !
in green bkgrd with gold lettering.
We, okay YOU, could also form an up-to-70-person chain with a message in up tp seventy characters, and then promenade with it--isn't there an aisle that goes all the way around the stadium?
All-n-all a clever and delicious way to rub their noses in it. (with proper props to the woofin' gods, etc.)
Howsabout this promenade message:
That's about 60 characters, including 9 spaces.
I want to be a space!
Just kidding.
There is an entire ring around the stadium that we can use. Shouldn't be too crowded, since we should have clinched. I say...card stunts from the seats, and then we'll take a walk, set ourselves up with our cards, and then do our 'Let's Go Oakland' cheer to attract attention.

Can someone help with saint's sign?
http://www.athleticsnation.com/story/2006/9/20/163417/242
I can help fund it, and help put it together, but whoever is picking up the materials, can you add this to the list?
Funding and assembly help...
U guys have got me ..
this is so cool!
Uhm...
I'll leave it up to those who are in the know
- money!! (paypal)
- post game, take the bart to a certain station and get a ride back to EAMBs house, assuming people are going to be working on stuff post game.
Materials update
So far I've called Pearl, Artist & Craftsment, Flax, & Blick and none carry a true forest green poster board. We might be in trouble...
One thought is to buy the yellow poster board, and then get the forest green in contstruction paper. That option is less appealing as two sides of poster board would make the tiles stronger than 1 side of poster baord, 1 side of construction paper...
Thoughts, suggestions?
well
Maybe our best bet is to
@Pearl they run 59 cents each, size is 22" x 28". We can cut down the long side to 22" to make a square. Kind of small, but doable.
So that's 70 green and 70 yellow pieces x .59 = $82.60 plus tax, call it $90. We'll need a few spray adhesive cans, call that $20. So I need $110.
So far I have 3 confirmed and 1 tentative for Saturday...
Tomorrow, on my way home from work...
if there's something better
C
I think a minimum of 24" is needed
I wonder...
Is this stunt for Saturday only? or Thursday
If the cards are travelling with me...
I updated this diary...
(Please see update... that's my comment... LOL)
Perfect
Okay, NOW it does...
How did *you* update the diary?
money on its way
Got it, thanks!
Small donation
If it's actually on TV...
Thanks..
AN is the BEST!
LET'S GO OAKLAND!
and you KNOW the team will LOVE this!
Poppy...
I'll make sure you get refunded. :)
I'm still a little afraid that...
I'll sneak them in your purse

THANKS POPPY!!!!!
I forgot to mention in the update...
I'll also be picking up some cans of spray adhesive today.
Oh good
Well, the T-thing is also not 28" long...
Hey -Poppy
I'll see BBG this weekend or you next and can do it then.
nevermind...just saw your email.
Update
I just figured out
How many of what color are in the box?
25? I saw some 5-packs in person when I was in Office Depot yesterday, I could buy some if they don't come through (and then we can sort out the refund issue later).
Yep
75 yellow
100 green
Which, we could get away with, if we settle for 22" x 22". It doesn't look like UPS is going to come through before tomorrow though. Their promises of a phone call "within an hour" are now officially unfulfilled.
