The A's And Their Outdoor Sale?

Forgive me, folks, if this subject isn't particularly diaryworthy, but it is something that I'm genuinely curious about.

I have heard from more than a few of my friends that the A's have, in the past, held an end-of-the-year outdoor sale.  Apparently it's a bazaar of sorts, with all sorts of A's merchandise and memorabilia available for sale.  I say apparently because my knowledge of the event is strictly secondhand.  Or at least it has been up to this point.

I intend to change that this year.  I am committed to making it to the A's sale this year, both simply to see what exactly is available and also to hopefully bolster my A's merch collection.

The reason for this diary, then, is to ask any or all of you if you know when this sale might happen?  I've already made plans to attend the last three home games of the year and while I would think that would be a logical time to have the sale, I don't know for sure.  Thus, I figured I'd turn it back to all of you to see any of you know for sure when the sale is. Even if it's not next weekend, I'd still appreciate knowing when it goes off as I'd be more than happy to drive down to attend (I live in Arcata, up in Humboldt County.)

Thanks in advance for any reply, folks, I do appreciate it.

The sale started already
The last game I attended was last Tuesday and the outdoor sale had already started. Shirts were only a couple bucks and there were pennants, hats, and pins too. I assume the sale will continue to the end of this final homestand.

Near the Gate D
entrance (66th Ave side).  I don't know if they have a tent on the other side.

During the Last Weekend
they usually have a Fan appreciation sale and items from this years inventory is on sale.  The tent sale during the last homestand were older merchandise but still good buys.

Great prices that last weekend
They'll roll out some new inventory to clear then too.  I got an Ellis jersey tee for $10 and a fitted Kelly green on white A's hat for $5 on the last day last year.  You don't get the very front line gear that'll sell next year too (no Chavvy shirts, say, and no high end stuff at all) but there are some good finds.

At the last homestand I got
a visor for $3. Regular price was $18. The homestand before that I got a Hatty t-shirt for $10.

Just get there early in the weekend so you get the good sizes. By the last day, all the men's L and XL stuff is long gone. This year, they've seemed to have a lot more kids clothes than in the past, in case you have any little A's fans.

***And so you know... the tent is set up outside gate D, right next to that freestanding day-of-game ticket sales shack.

I want a Hatty t-shirt!

My husband got one last year,
on the last day of the last homestand, because we figured that would be the last chance to have one... made me sad...  :(

Yes, I'm female.

The three choices at the time were
Hatty, Durazo, or Yabu, so it was a tough decision to just pick one.

by Flyin As on Sep 15, 2006 10:55 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wait a second.
Yabu has his own shirt? Do Duchscherer and Calero have shirts?
Something tells me Joe would not be cool with that.

by Jennifer on Sep 15, 2006 11:04 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep.
I'd love a Duchscherer shirt, but I'm embarrassed by the fact that the name would fit across me so much better than it fits across him...

Whew.
I was about to go postal if Yabu had a shirt and Duke didn't.

Duke has a shirt?????
I've never seen one. The only one i've seen was one that a fan made. I was looking all over the Coliseum for one in June because it was my mom's 58th b-day this year.

by Flyin As on Sep 15, 2006 1:29 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Actually...
...I don't think he does. This was a topic on an Extra Innings show not too long ago. A caller proposed that there be one, and at least two others I heard before having to leave the radio seconded and thirded (?) the proposition.

Yeah, I remember that
So Yabu does have a shirt and Duke doesn't?

Bitches.

by Jennifer on Sep 15, 2006 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes...
...Yabu did. And I remember that unlike other player jersey t-shirts at the end of the season, there were only XL, XXL and maybe XXXL ones left! (Not sure if there's even such thing as that last size...)

by PositionPlayerProd on Sep 15, 2006 2:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, there are XXXL around

I've seen Duke shirts on a couple of people...
...but haven't looked for them in the shops.  So maybe they weren't "official"...  :(

Yabu's shirt
Yabu had his own shirt, but it wasn't a big seller.  The fabric had a disturbing tendency to burst into flames whenever it was exposed to pressure situations.

or was that the Rincon shirt?  Can't remember now.

Last year
at the last homegame of the season, which was a Wednesday day game, I think, some vendors were running around selling stuff for mighty cheap (I got a nice visor for 5 bucks). Of course, if we go postseason, they probably won't be hawking the nice stuff like that, but who knows.

At any rate, just thought I would mention it for future (way future) reference.... get there early if the season is dying because the prices are dropping like flies.... in the locker room! Or something.

Hmmm...
...I doubt he'd be part of either an outdoor tent or indoor fan appreciation sale. More likely, he's part of a live auction at either a luxury suite or the Diamond Level!
