Jay Payton

Not sure if it's worthy of a diary, but I am super happy to read this about Jay Payton posted in tomorrow's San Jose Mercury News.

The team apparently won't be losing its hottest hitter, either, as X-rays on the right hand of Jay Payton -- hit flush with a fastball Wednesday -- were negative.

For the rest of the article, click here:

So Payton looks to be okay, now if his hitting can just become contagious as later in the article they point out just how bad some of these guys have been lately.

But that still doesn't solve the problem of Bobby Crosby (.229, one homer since May 31), Nick Swisher (.200, six homers over the same stretch) or Mark Ellis (.216 overall).

Well good news for Jay, and let's get hot in time for a solid post season run!

Thank goodness!
At the rate A's players miss games, I got nervous just opening this diary.

Jay Payton Okay!
I guess that would have been a better title for the diary, but I figure it's always a nice surprise to expect the worst and then open and find good news.

At-a-way, Jay-Pay!

I like that handle--shout out to Lance Blankenship.

kind or ironic
Several people wanted him out of here and now we can't afford to lose him and he may be our most important player.

seriously
there was so much hate on jay pay... and he was always mentioned in any of the AN'ers silly trade proposals... i'm so relieved his hand is ok... jay pay rips...

kind "of" ironic

That's not ironic
That's pathetic... as in how pathetic our offense has played all season.
Why yes. I am a ray of warm and fuzzy sunshine.

That's true.
If Payton is one of your key offensive players, that's bad.

But the fact remains that he's a huge part of this team, if only for his health and relative productivity.

Thank goodness we have Jay Payton.

news flash: this team can't hit.

And the infielder with
an OBP better than .313 is...Nobody! (Except Chavy pre-June.) Meh.

crosby, ellis, a. perez and scutaro for neifi perez.
.281 avg in the last month!!! (.276 obp)

We might have to throw in
"Swisher with mono" and "Chavy without arms". We are, after all, talking about Neifi Perez.

Hey, Alex Sanchez is available, isn't he? Why should Kendall have to be last on the team in slugging?

That's a relief
We were almost to the point of being down another good hitter. That's why I was not happy with Billy B. standing pat again this year at the trading deadline. I would have liked to see us get someone like Ronnie Belliard. St. Louis got him for someone named Hector Luna. Ellis right now offensively is a weak link, I don't know how much longer we can be patient with him.

Someone named Hector Luna
is pretty much the same person as someone named Ronnie Belliard only younger, cheaper and better.
I'll try not to swear.

also
unlike belliard, luna doesn't look and behave like manny ramirez.
