What happened.
That first curve ball from zito at like the second pitch of a game was a dead obvious strike.  After that, he had to stay consistent.

In fact I think thats what a lot of umpires do - they just go with the flow of their mistakes, to try to be consistent.  Same with refs in the NBA, sometimes a slap on the hand is a foul, and sometimes an elbow to the face isn't.

I think I just figured it out
Kotsay does an okay job most of the time, but when the game is winnable but not a sure thing, bring in the real defensive first baseman to make sure. A player who is out of position is probably more likely to make an error when it's important.

A first-base closer, if you will. He's not in there to bat.

me too
he's been very valuable these past three years.

I loved seeing how he is the big star in Venezuela. I can't tell you how many billboards I saw and commercials with Marco selling all kinds of stuff...it was fun.

based on his performance in one game?
a lot of people owe kendall and loaiza apologies as well, then...

no, based on his performance
filling in for injured players and having a good number of good games over the past three years.

C'mon, give us Scutaro fans a little credit.

his offensive numbers would be embarrassing
if they weren't just about the same as every other middle infielder we have.  and in that sense, he's filled in well for injured players.

I've never seen him as
the #1 starter, so for me he hasn't been as disappointing as Crosby and (to a lesser extent) Ellis.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I LOVE YOU SCUTARO!!!... AND A's!!
When Crosby was asked after the game if the collision was fun, the 26-year-old responded with a wide-eyed "Yeah!"
