My old A's hats: Keep 'em, Sell 'em or Give 'em Away? (with poll)

After 5 years of not living at my parents house, they're turning my old room into the guest bedroom.  It's kind of sad, but then again, it's really not.  I don't need a bed with the sheets from Full House (if anyone remembers those, I seriously had them on my bed back in the day), I don't need my 49ers aluminum trash bin, I don't need my Pez collection on the wall, nor do I need the pennant with an inset photo of me from when I was 12 and played on the Texas Rangers (hiss) for little league beside it.  So just burn it, right?

<sigh>

If only it was that easy.  Some of the stuff is total junk, some of the stuff I want to keep, and some of the stuff undoubtedly has value to others.

A lot of things are easy to know if I should keep, from my digeridoo to my stereo to Alaskan art.  But one thing that I'm totally on the fence about I can't decide what to do with are my old A's hats that no longer fit me.  Do I hold onto them and treasure the sentimental value that remains, while keeping clutter around my place?  Do I keep them around for my kids in the future?  Or do I part ties with them and give them away, or even sell them at the garage sale I'm gonna have next week?  The upside here is that someone else, another A's fan, gets to have a hat and show his or her support for the team.  But still, somehow that seems sacreligious...or does it?

Maybe this is just what growing up feels like, but my desire for order in my life is battling the degree to which I care about order with regard to my passions.  It's kind of sad, but it's almost like order is overtaking passion.  Have any of you gone through situations like this, even if not about baseball or the A's?

So, back to the practical matter at hand, what do I do?  Keep 'em, Sell 'em or Give 'em away?

These are the hats I have:
Green hat with White A's logo - size 6 7/8

White hat with green brim and yellow (green outline) A's logo - size 6 7/8

Old Philly A's hat (with tags) - 7

Old KC A's hat (with tags) - 7 1/8

Oh, and the green and white hat has a Scott Spiezio signature from back in 1997.  Speaking of Spiezio, does his goatee really look like this?
It looks like red fur or something...

Thank you all for your insight!

Keep 'em!
Actually, you probably shouldn't ask me, because I'm just a totally sentimental packrat.

A couple of years ago...
...we moved to an apartment with minimal storage space, after we'd been living for 10 years in a duplex with a garage.  Due to the layout of the duplex, it was physically impossible to drive the car around the corner of the house and into the garage, so we just parked the car on the street and spent ten years filling the garage with stuff.

The junk-purge when we moved was absolutely brutal.

keep 'em
pack them in a small box and tuck them away.  they won't take up too much room, and someday you'll be glad you did.

the ones with tags might actually become collector's items...

Cooperstown Ballcap Co.
Those ones with the tags are reproductions.  Excellent repros (I have 2 caps from the Cooperstown Ballcap Company, and I love them!) but since you can order one exactly like either of those in about 5 minutes online, I don't think they'll be collectors' items.

But they are very cool, and I think you should keep them.

Head
Your head is growing at a "Barry Bonds" rate...
  • 6 7/8
  • 7
  • 7 1/8
Keep 'em all.

Haha.
Yeah, the Barry Bonds rate would be worrisome if I hadn't grown over a foot in height since I could wear those...

I wear a 7 1/4 now, so if I keep growing I'll make sure to cut back on the 'roids. Ha.

Keep the hats!
They are stackable, and as Ikea has taught us all, if you can stack it, you can pack(rat) it.

On Spezio
Yeah, he dyed his facial hair red when the Cards picked him up.

I'm hoping that Swish, Kotsay, Kendall (can stubble be dyed?) and others follow suit and have a green facial hair day. And if Haren ever grows his back, a la some of his baseball rookie cards, I'd be happy if he joined the good times, as well!

Green Facial Hair?!
That would be pretty crazy.  I think it would be funny for, like, a day, and then everyone would be like, "OK, I'm shaving."

What about the PEZ?
I'm always looking for more PEZ, much to my wife's confusion

by Dr Pez on Aug 25, 2006 8:32 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hey Dr. Pez-
I have like 300 or 400 pez, but unfortunately they're all boxed up and moved out of my room, so it'll be hard to tell you exactly what I have.

For a number of years, I was buying complete sets of the US figures and keeping them in the bag or on card, and when my sister went to Spain in 1997 she brought me back a lot of European ones.  As my collection grew, I got some of the older ones with no feet, and I think my most expensive Pez is the one-eyed monster, like this one:
Or possibly some of my Merry Melody Makers.

In addition to the dispensers, I have a lot of random Pez crap too (well, not crap, but you know what I mean), like a 12 inch Charlie Brown musical Pez "dispenser,"  the Bubbleman who blows bubbles, the big Dino Pez dispenser that really is a flashlight, the display from Jack in the Box with the Jack Pez that says "someone call the Pez hall of fame and tell them I'm on my way" (and like 6 of those dispensers- 2 of each color), Pez Cars (that dispense Pez as they drive), Pez Keychains, Mini Pez, and a number of those motorized dispensers (the generic one, the looney tunes ones, and the Jar Jar Binks one from Star Wars), and about 8 tons of Pez Candy aka Chalk.  Betcha never thought chalk tasted SO good!

I'm sure there are other things I'm not thinking of right now, but that's all I can think of at the moment.  What is noteworthy in your collection?

whoa!!!
that totally displayed the wrong photo.  I play footbag too, and that is the bag my friend Ilja is sending me. :)

Let this be a lesson to all to preview posts before submitting.

I was all fired up
to make an offer on your hats, because I need a new A's one...then I remembered that no one has hats that fit my mutant head (7 7/8) :-(...

yeah,
and no one (but kids) wears a 6 7/8...

I have a few A's hats that I'm keeping, so it makes it easier to potentially part with these ones.

KC A's Hat
I'd be interested in the KC hat, if you decide to part with it.

Would barely fit my mellon but I'm currently putting together an A's hat collection to match my bobbleheads (only missing a few).  Just trying to get all the authentics plus a few throwback/minor league ones when I can avoid the $25-30 price tag for new ones :).
