A's up 10-2 with Witasick on.  I wanted to leave the initial thread open the rest of the season given the way the A's were hitting, but alas, a new thread was needed.

LET'S GO OAK-LAND!!!!!!!

player #42 in the game
that's simply nuts.

here are the players on the Cubs and Astros combined 25 man rosters who haven't played in this game yet. Give them time, though...

Astros -

Brandon Backe
Jason Hirsch
Roy Oswalt
Andy Pettitte

Cubs -

Ryan Dempster
Rich Hill
Carlos Marmol
Carlos Zambrano

I think those are the
8 remaining starting pitchers for both teams.  This game is grea, in a train wreck sort of way.

I don't think
Hirsch and Dempster are... As far as I know, Dempster is still the Cubs closer, i mean, guy that blows games in the 9th.

As for Hirsch, I'm not sure who he is. He looks like he might be the #5 starter for the Astros, but upon further research, he might be hurt.

wasn't that long ago
now they have a $14 million payroll and a 55-63 record, about 20 more wins than they should have with that kind of AA-AAA level talent. Not that I'm knocking their team, but most of those kids should stil be in the high minors. It's nothing short of remarkable that they are doing as well as they are. Joe Girardi should get NL Manager of the Year, and Jeffrey Loria should be run out of town on a rail.

Beinfest is a good GM,
given the circumstances.  He's assembled some very good young talent.  He ought to move Dontrelle for some shiny parts this winter, sign a free agent, and create a wild cart contender for next year.
Stat Wonk Futurist

by salb918 on Aug 15, 2006 9:30 PM PDT up reply actions

I'd agree with that.
It makes the most sense for their franchise, long run. Of course, that's assuming that Loria wants Beinfest to think long term, and not just, "make money now, but look like we're running at a loss, so we can move out of Florida".

The Astro's don't even swing.
They'll trade this one for some sleep, and they have a pitcher for tomorrow

as do most Astros-Cubs games
I saw two of them earlier this year in Wrigley, with my buddy Joel, a Cubs fan. The Cubs lost both, and they were pretty boring games...

good thing MLB.tv exists...
These extra's games are the only ones I watch beside the A's.
"I see Milton Bradley being the Oaktown player that breaks out this year." breaks out... breaks out of where? jail?

i've got MLB EI
so i watch games PIP on my tv. Actually, I watch about 5-6 games a day like that.

Yes, I do have a life. And a job. And I go to school. I just really like baseball.

Stop looking at me like that.

Back in .... 74?
A's and White Sox went 21, and it was either 2-1 or 1-0 (I can't even remember who won....)

by Bronx A's Fan on Aug 15, 2006 11:07 PM PDT reply actions
