AN Invades Anaheim: Card Stunts!

Ok AN, baseballgirl has done a wonderful job of coordinating an AN lovefest in Anaheim the last weekend of the season, and yours truly will be present at the Thursday game.  All plesantries aside, I think this is our chance to make a mark, get noticed and have a good time doing it.

Card stunts, and moving card stunts, are hella old school.  You see them now at Cal, among other schools, and it's a fun way to razz the opponents or get noticed.  Well, I looked at our sections and the diagram of seats for Thursday is way too small to work with, so peeps on Saturday - this dream all falls on your heads!

Today I got bored and designed some preliminary stunts that you who go on Saturday can do.  If this is something the community as a whole is interested in, I'll talk to Blez and BBG and see if we can coordinate purchase of some cards for the stunts.  This can only happen, though, if everyone is willing to participate.  It's going to  be weird enough that we're missing a row...

Anyways, take a look at the designs and let me know if this is something that interests the AN community!

PS - Rickeyfan has also shown interest in pursuing this idea, and perhaps you can post some ideas and/or diagrams on here, Rickyfan?

PPS - by no means am I an art major, so if you see something that can be improved, by all means, please let me know!  Feel free to design your own, too.  If you want the excel file, just let me know and I'll email it to you.

Those are great!
"Grit" and "Rex" are really hard to read (stupid row I!!!), but I love the whole idea.  I hope to be there Saturday... maybe we could get all of row I to trade seats with all of row H... LOL

yeah i know they're hard to read
if someone else has an idea of how to, then try it out?  I'll try and tinker with it some more when I've got some free time.

Maybe if Row I is friendly...
They could join in?  (But who the hell am I kidding?  It's enemy territory!)

I find it bizarre...
...that row I is unavailable for both Thursday and Saturday -- in completely different sections.  Maybe there actually aren't any row I's in the park!  The letter I might look too much like a number 1, and somehow be confusing?

And you'd certainly get on ESPN or something like that for it, but something tells me ole Rev knowing about it might spoil your little plan.

Thought of one last weekend
I was in Seattle behind the A's dugout.  Something happened to Milton like a strikeout or call out at first - I do not recall.  I do remember he was heading back to the dugout and he looked pissed.  It was like he was walking straight towards me.  I was thinking to myself, 'stay cool Milton.'  Then I thought, that would be a great sign...and it is not meant to be negative.  I truly wished he would just let it blow over and be cool.

Problem is that he may have an off day on that Saturday.

by easyraider on Aug 13, 2006 10:39 AM PDT reply actions

BRILLIANT!
What a great idea.  If it's still in doubt that weekend, we're coming down to those games.  We're gonna get scalped.

Anaheim is pretty stringent about bringing things in the park, you might wanna clear the cards coming in to the stadium.

by BleacherDave on Aug 13, 2006 1:14 PM PDT reply actions

They're not stringent really
For example, signs are NOT allowed in Dodger Stadium at all.

3 ft x 3 ft signs are allowed in Anaheim.

Very mellow So Cal attitude.

Hey Trojanoava,
I've updated my file (much easier knowing there isn't an I) ... do you hae an email I can send them to?

by Rickeyfan on Aug 14, 2006 10:46 AM PDT reply actions

P.S. Does anyone know how to reach
Mickey Morabito, the team's travel guy?  I was wondering if he'd have some sort of 'in' towards getting a good hotel rate for fans traveling down for the game, perhaps at the same hotel the team stays at?  I'm sure the team would be juiced to see a core group of die-hards willing to go down to back them up.

AHH
where r ya'l sitting?!?!   my bf and i want to join too.
Can I move back to NorCal?!

by griffisgurl on Aug 14, 2006 11:09 AM PDT reply actions

Whats the plan on the card stunts???
Are we going to do them?

I think BBG should send a letter with the tix and maybe let the people who are sitting in that spot(i.e. K 6,7,8 occupants get "x" color cards, etc...) or organize it somehow to see if everyone is willing to be involved.

by Paul3online on Aug 14, 2006 11:41 AM PDT reply actions

Basically
if we're going to do it, it's requisite that we get 100% participation from those who are going.  BBG is emailing everyone who has tickets to Saturday's game to see if we can secure close to 100% participation.  If we can, then I will look into making individual seat assignment things as well as purchasing the cards.

by noava22 on Aug 14, 2006 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Once we settle on the chants
I can figure out which seats flip their cards when for certain chants.  I think a simple set of chants as well as two color (green one side, yellow the other) will work best.  I'd rather not complicate things too much.  Better to focus on nailing the easy ones fluidly.  (And the camera's / blimps won't have to interpret the cards).

by Rickeyfan on Aug 14, 2006 1:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Thank you both...
...for putting your imaginations & energy into this project.  I'm 90% certain to be there Saturday (and if I'm there, I'm 100% into the stunt)!
