A's vs. Royals - Midwest AN Weekend 2.5

Hey everyone.  Midwest AN Weekend is now 1 week away, as out beloved A's take on the formerly desparate Royals, who just swept the Red Sox.  It appeared to me that there are several people who plan on coming to tailgate, hang out, and enjoy the company of other ANers, so I thought I would post some information for people that have never been to the K, or who might have forgotten the area.
First: Tickets  The A's dugout is on the third base side, and there is a good group of A's fans on that side.
Second: Directions and Parking   The stadium is easy to get to.  We will meet in Lot A around 12:30 pm on Friday, 2 on Saturday, and 11 or so on Sunday.
Third: Kauffman  Tours  Not sure why anybody would want a tour, but just in case.
Fourth: Guide to Kauffman  Rules and Regulations.  You can get a certificate if this is your first visit to the K.
Fifth: Previous Diary  In case you missed the memo on tailgating.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions.  Otherwise, let's try and outparty those ANaheimers!!

For being about 2000 miles from Oakland
There is a whole hell of alot of hardcore A's fans in KC. Every game it gets better and better and I always love to see the same people again and again. This will be my 1st time to "Tailgate" because usually I'm too consumed by trying to get autographs or whatever...but I've got all weekend. Plus one of my good friends is going to lose her A's virginity, so I need to show her a good time.....SEVEN DAYS....GO A'S

I'll be there
Lot A, noonish, Friday. And before every other game, too. Stop by, everyone, we're all friendly folk. I'll even toss you a cold one and offer up a brat or burger.

Huh?
Last year you drank all of MY beer.  Now you are bring cool ones for everyone??  Let me know if I need to cover you on all these freebies you are handing out.

J/K- I'll bring some extra drinks for those over the legal limit.  Is Jennifer 21 yet?  Oh wait... she hates tailgating and loves BP.

I'll be bringing down a case or two of coors, I think. The only thing better than hanging out and drinking with A's fans before the game is handing out free beers to A's fans and making new friends.

Ok, I'm flying in Fri morning
that should now, in the wake of yesterday, take 70 hours to execute - soooo I will be making a mad dash for BP Friday night I think, but what is the game plan for between games? Where are we going to meet up? and is there a liquor store nearby so I can hook-up some treaty-weaties for Saturday?!

by AndreafromNJ on Aug 11, 2006 7:08 AM PDT reply actions

Lot A
is the meetup spot.  As for a liq store, probably need to ask someone from KC.

And who is in the know for where to celebrate AFTER?! any suggestions cause I'm on mini-vacation!!!! Time to tear it up!

If you want to see A's players
Go to the Kona Grill (half price sushi after 12:00) early evening and then the Gran Fallon late evening.  I saw Roger Clemens and Brad Ausmus at both places last year.  I also ran into the formerly known "A" Dan Johnson at Kona grill on Saturday afternoon before the game.

Since I'm already going to hell....
I don't remember what year it was, but a serial killer was murdering prostitutes on Independence Avenue (KC's "red light district") and dumping them in the Missouri River. Over ten bodies were discovered down stream. Grandpa used to say you could find the good prostitute on Independence Avenue because they were the ones wearing life jackets.

Westport
and the Plaza about 20 minutes or so from the K, which is a quick cab ride.  We hit the Holiday Inn bar and ran into a bunch of random A's fans, then I missed the trip to the strip club because I passed out.  Again, probably something that someone from KC would know more about.

by sprtsnwyn on Aug 11, 2006 10:37 AM PDT up reply actions

speaking of the red light district- see above
I think the strip joints are near the same area where the whores were murdered.

Sounds Like A Blast
Having an AN day at a road stadium, wish I could make it.  Drove to KC in June with friends to see the Brewers play, which was great...but not as fun as seeing the A's would be!  I was hoping they'd have a KC A's hat in the team shop but I didn't see anything besides Royals stuff, go figure ;).

Noon? Good lord!
I'll be arriving early Thursday afternoon and we'll be at all the games.  Noon is kinda pushing it, but we'll be there around two or so on Friday.  Look for the two girls in the Harden and Swisher T-shirts.  And yes, I will be stopping at section 103 to pick up my first Royals game certificate and I will accept it with pride.  Heh.

I'm planning on watching some BP before two of the games that weekend, so I've got to get started a bit earlier then.

I'll definitely be going in early for BP on Saturday, so I can get a George Brett bobblehead. Yea, I know, he's a Royal, but c'mon, it's George Brett. The pine tar incident was one of the greatest things I've ever seen in baseball.

I had a great time meeting Tim, Kyle, and Ryan last year.  Unfortunately, my work schedule won't allow me to make it out this year.

Being 14 (15 in september) is definitly a downer right now. My parents were pretty against the whole "meet people from AN" thing. I think you guys might scare them. But I will be in KC for those games, hopefully we can get some chants started and these games will be better then last year. Those sucked for me! Damn drunken Royals fans anyway.

that whenever someone says Go Big Red, I immediately hear the Husker fight song in my head and have an urge to stand up and stand clapping or pumping my fist. It's kind of odd, but that comes with the territory of being born and raised here...

Can we...
exit the ballpark between games of the double header?  I know once you go in they don't allow you to exit and re-enter for regular games. (Thus the reason my spring training program got ruined after the guy behind me spilled coke on it cuz of the wunnerful Kaufman Stadium Gate Nazis wouldn't let me run it out to the truck.)
