DLD 7/8/06 - Batter up!

My first DLD... be gentle. ;P

I don't have much to dump, except...

Baseball's only woman ump to work HR derby.

Gagne to have season-ending surgery.  Ouch. Is he aspiring to have Big Hurt's track record these last few years?

Dontrelle Willis hit a grand slam yesterday

And in case you didn't hear, The Angels' Lackey pitched a perfect game only after allowing a leadoff double.

ETA: Bradley went 0 for 4 in his first rehab start with the 'Cats.

Hope I did this right.  Dump away! And GO A'S!

Scott Boras is the devil.
Barry, it was nice knowing you.

Wow really?
Didn't Zito fire Scott Boras a few years ago so he could sign his current contract with Oakland?

by alamedagirl on Jul 8, 2006 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

any chance the A's had of re-signing him are gone
now.

Any chance of the A's
signing Zito were gone four years ago.

well, unless
the '07 talent pool is as deep as advertised.

If not, then we'll see.

So much for the
"It's not about the money" mantra.  The above link about Zito being a "command and location" pitcher (according to his new agent Boras) made me laugh, since he is known for hitting and walking his fair share of batters.

I'm waiting for the binder
that describes Zito as "Greatest Left Hander Since Steve Carlton."

Not to mention the amount of pub
he can bring to a team due to his courting of breezy Hollywood "IT" girls.

His fair share?

Year  BB/9  Rank

2003  3.42  6th
2004  3.42  11th
2005  3.51  4th

"Zito and Maddux are a lot alike."  <dies laughing>  That's just insane.  I like me some Zito, but he's got almost nothing, save durability, in common with Maddux.

Shit.
I can't believe he did that-- I was so happy the guy dropped Boras a few years ago, seemed to say a lot about his character. Fuck. This is terrible news.

Goodbye, Barry. Have fun in pinstripes.

GAH. GLARG.

"This must be heaven," he says.
"No. It's Oakland."

lol
"GAH.GLARG."

You are a hilarious and cool person. You turned my "A's haven't gotten a hit in 12 innings" frown upside down.

Bye Bye Zito
As most of have said,  Zito is gone.  I can't believe he resigned with Boros.  I wonder if Barry's father had some influence in this decision.   Joe Zito is a very big part of Barry's Baseball life.

Don't mean to sound so crude
but maybe this is Zito's way of saying that he doesn't really want to stay in Oakland, without actually saying it.

He signed with the devil?

Zito and Boras?
Any hope i had to sign Zito just went out the window.

Man, that ruins my day..

That's okay, we weren't
going to be able to sign him even if Morty O'Reilly from "Stuck on You" were representing him.

Zito and Boras?
Zito is possessed. He has sold his soul to the devil. Hire the exorcism crew.

Damn. I was really hoping there was a chance he'd come back, but the devil doesn't like the A's (probably because of Huston and his cookie baking or something). The only way is to loosen the devil's stronghold on Barry. :(

damn
as a fan of baseball, Boras really bothers me.

It's sad to see Zito drop Tellem for him.

There's no way Zito resigns now. Enjoy his starts while you can.

Macha continues to hate on Swisher
I think we've seen a few sort of little remarks or comments suggetsing that, here's another.

http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060707&content_id=1545521& ;vkey=news_oak&fext=.jsp&c_id=oak

It's an article about the team MVP of the first half, asking different players their opinions.

Pressed to name an offensive MVP, Macha conceded that Swisher is the "en vogue pick, but I'm gonna go with Frank."

En vogue? I can just imagine the resentment in Macha's voice as he said that. My hate of Macha grows every day.

by ohad on Jul 8, 2006 5:23 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I saw that.
And while I don't hate Macha, the "let's keep Swisher grounded" seems like overkill these days. Swish is the en vogue pick? Not if you count up the votes by his teammates.

I don't think Macha resents Swish. Why would he? It's been pretty obvious that Billy, Macha, and certain players such as Kotsay and Kendall have made a concious effort to keep him level-headed. Hopefully he always remembers that it's just tough love.

I've noted how Macha talks about Swish
and I agree that he's doing "tough love"

by OaklandSi on Jul 8, 2006 10:10 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

i highly doubt he resents Swish
I can just imagine him saying that with Macha style sneeriness. That's all.

it's not hate
most valuable player =(attempt at the "not equal to" sign) stat worhty player (i.e. a-rod in texas)...  i think zito is the team mvp. when we are in a slump,  he'll always keep us in the game (last night's performance overshadowed by lackey).  i believe is macha's current actions toward swisher is like the father-son dynamic... in which he "reprimands"(i used a big word)  swisher for things he does in excessive that's not going to win games.  sans macha's lineups, macha deserve at least some credit for the 45 wins.
