Deal for Soriano Just to Drive Price?

I bet the A's were just trying to drive Soriano's price up for other contenders.

Did the A's submit a deal just so the Angles would drive up what they are offering? I find it hard to believe that we were seriously pursuing Soriano. Beane got the attention of the media which likely got the attention of the Angles. Did we make them try to give up more? I think so.

How could Beane be driving up the price when he doesn't have what it takes in the first place. To drive up the price, you need to offer more than your competitor. There's no way that we offered more than the Angels did.

My thought is that if Beane had Soriano in his hands, he would've shipped him to another team for a lesser bat and prospects.
