Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Dan Meyer done for the season....again

Well, for the second year in a row, Dan Meyer is hurt, and hurt badly enough that the A's plan to put him on the shelf for the rest of the season...

A blurb from today's Chronicle:

It appears that Sacramento left-hander Dan Meyer, acquired from Atlanta in the Tim Hudson deal after the 2004 season, won't pitch again this season because of continued shoulder trouble. Meyer is scheduled for a second opinion next week, according to assistant GM David Forst, and there are no plans for surgery right now.

Sad really. I feel badly for Meyer. It has to be incredibly frustrating not only for him, but especially for A's brass, as this really complicates the starting rotation picture in the years ahead, and basically means they traded Tim Hudson for Brad Halsey.

Halsey
has been pretty good but he is no Hudson.  reminds me of McGwire for T.J. Matthews.  they should have let Hudson walk and got a draft pick for him.
Chicks love the long ball . . . too bad for the A's.

Please Billy, find a way to bring him back. Buy low, he'll be back to the ace we knew!

it would take a lot to get him back from the
braves

you think so?
with that contact, they might be willing to deal just to avoid 08 and 09:

06:$4M, 07:$6M, 08:$13M, 09:$13M, 10:$12M mutual option

(I know, I know. We can't afford that either. But Huddy is my favorite Athletic. I'll never forget that game against Tampa Bay which got us into the playoffs!)

why would they re-sign him only to trade him one
year into it? as a braves fan i'm not to happy with hudson right now but with smoltz at the end of his career they aren't going to trade hudson.

The Hudson trade make the Mulder trade possible

How did the Hudson trade
make the Mulder trade possible? Just curious.

The Cardinals were desperately
trying to acquire Charles Thomas from the Braves. When Thomas was dealt to Oakland, it broke Walt Jocketty's spirit so much that he made the Mulder deal without thinking.

Let me elaborate

Now you understand?

the A's had also dangled Huddy
to the Cards. The Cards balked at the asking price (Haren, Calero, Barton). But when Huddy went to the Braves and the A's repeated the offer to the Cards but with Mulder, they pulled the trigger.

anyway, that's the story I remember reading during the winter of 2004-05.

Too bad
I feel sorry for the guy. Hindsight is 20/20, but the Orioles were willing to deal Erik Bedard and possibly Chris Ray for Hudson.

EXTRA, EXTRA!!
This is the biggest non-news on the year.  Geez... why don't we save some of these injuries for next year?
