Dellums and the Oakland A's

Hey everyone--

I was browsing YouTube this morning while at work, and found this video for "Choose or Lose the Oakland A's" campaign. Has anyone else seen this before? Or have I just been missing out?

Anyways, I was thinking since Mr. Dellums looks like the new Mayor of Oakland, here's his response:

I was really impressed by the quality and directness of the video itself. Sorry if this is old and I just missed it the first time around.

Hope you are well all--

And the only quote that matters is "Don't break your pick on this one".

That's Lew Wolff telling the man he knew would become Mayor, and thus telling all of us, that they are headed elsewhere.

I like how he threw Jerry Brown under the bus.
He pretty much said that the uptown site would have flown with him, were he the mayor and not Brown.
"The first night, we were right there," Bradley said. "All we needed was a couple of touchdowns, and we would have had them."

Assembly runner-up
and City Attorney, John Russo told me essentially the same thing -- that we'd be building a ballpark at Uptown right now, if not for Jerry Brown.

<Brown lands on shoulder..put on 15 Day DL>
A's trainers state "it's only a flesh wound" and expect Brown to resurface elsewhere shortly.

Jerry Brown's Body Found Under S.F. Pier
The body of former mayor of Oakland Jerry Brown was discovered under yeseterday, having surfaced under a pier after floating across the bay from Oakland. Brown was pronounced dead by authorities on the scene, and the official cause is suspected to be gas gangrene due to a shoulder injury sustained days earlier. The former mayor's corpse was apparently discovered in a Hunter's Point harbor by local gang members, who immediately opened fire upon the body. The noise from shots attracted the attention of residents, who called the police. How Brown initially got into the water, and whether he was alive or dead at the time, is still unclear.
The last doctors to treat Brown alive, the medical staff of the Oakland Athletics, refuse to give details on Brown's current condition. "With this sort of shoulder injury, it's difficult to tell exactly how long it will take Mayor Brown to recuperate," A's trainer Larry Davis said in a press conference. "Our original rehab regimen concentrated on increasing range-of-motion and cardiovascular stamina by swimming, combined with simultaneous strength building through the use of 100-pound wrist- and ankle-weights, which, we have learned, should be fastened with something more secure than velcro. Certainly the gangrene, gunshots, and having floated around the bay face-down for several days may complicate things, but at this point we feel comfortable with six to eight weeks for a full recovery."
The prognosis was welcome news to A's owner Lew Wolff. "We are very glad to hear of Mayor Brown's predicted convalescence," Wolff said. "Despite our differences of opinion in the past, we believe that Jerry is an A's fan at heart. We also look forward to having him healthy in time for a private ground-breaking at our future location in Fremont, where we plan to make him an integral part of the foundation of the new stadium."

Joe Morgan, born and raised in Oakland,
refuses to read book.  No book can tell him how to throw Jerry Brown.

Yes
Only people who've thrown Jerry Brown before know how to throw Jerry Brown.

Ah. Mr. Brown...
I was walking through SFO a few years ago and walking toward me was a guy who was ambling around aimlessly, looking and acting exactly like a derelict who sleeps in airports.  He stopped someone to ask for directions and as I got closer I was shocked that it was ol' Jerry Brown himself, slack-jawed and dazed.

I've had some interesting airport experiences.  I flew from SFO to LAX and sat across the aisle from OJ Simpson about two weeks before he murdered his wife.  Maybe I should stay out of airports.

Something about Jerry and airports
Jerry Brown has never suffered from an over-sensitivity to the feelings of those around him.  This May 21st Matier and Ross story fits the bill quite nicely.  To wit:
They were preparing to taxi away from the LAX terminal when the usual announcement was made that all cell phones needed to be turned off.  Everyone did so -- all except one guy, we're told, who kept talking on his phone.

A minute or so later comes another announcement to the effect of, "For the gentleman who is still on his phone, we need you to turn the phone off immediately!''

The guy continues talking.  As the plane backs away from the gate, a flight attendant walks down the aisle toward the guy.

Another announcement comes over the PA.  "Ladies and gentleman, if the person who is still on the phone does not hang up immediately, we'll be forced to taxi back to the gate so he can finish his phone conversation!''

Now passengers are becoming agitated.  The flight attendant stands over the guy on the phone and warns, "Sir, I'm going to count to three. One. Two. Three.''

"Just five more seconds,'' the guy on the phone pleads.

"No, sir! You need to hang up now!'' the attendant replies.

Finally, the guy hangs up.

One of the passengers turns around to give the guy the evil stare -- only to recognize him as none other than Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown.

Soulless bastard who long since lost connection to any principles whatsoever, except the eternal quest for re-election.  I bet he doesn't use his turn signal either.

Better luck is just a standard deviation away.

Dellums
According to the SF Comical Dellums no longer has over 50% of the vote as of Saturday morning.  So there may still be a runoff.

A run off that DLF will lose handily, cuz...
...it's not like he's going to get Nadel's 13%  Besides, in the November general election turnout should be higher, which tends to help more liberal candidates in this area.  I can't imagine why DLF doesn't concede.  It's seems petty, costly, and politically foolish.

The interesting question at this point, re: the remaining ballots, is the balance of absentee v. provisional ballots.  While absentee ballots tend to run more right than the overall vote, the provisional ballots shouldn't have this slant.  The question remains whether their are enough provisional ballots remaining to tip the balance back to Dellums.

Because concession
doesn't carry any legal weight.  If it's under 50%, then there has to be a runoff, concession or no.

Are you saying that they can force...
...someone to run, even if he chooses not to/withdraws/refuses to serve?  Because even if they technically need to hold the run off on November, it's still wasteful for DLF to campaign.  He should return his focus to City Council business.

Yes, they can.
The exact thing happened in CA-24th CD. The incumbent, Elton Gallegly (Rep) attempted to withdraw after having filed to run for the office. He was unable to. In California, once a candidate has filed, he/she remains on the ballot unless he/she dies.
