Open Thread: Game 59 - A's at Cleveland

I had a long conversation with the bobbleheads this morning before I left for work. Kendall and Crosby think that Blanton is going to rock today, but Gagne's really skeptical. But really, what does he know? He's been out for the whole season.

I'd like to take this moment to say that it's about damn time. I kid you not. This gem of a quote appeared on the A's preview on MLB.com today. Chavvy should tattoo this on his forehead to always remember this moment. What's next? Heart and grit?

Eric Chavez has been Oakland's clutch hitter and did it again Tuesday night. His two-run homer off Scott Sauerbeck tied the game in the eighth inning, and the A's went on to win, 7-6. Of Chavez's last 17 RBIs, 10 have either tied the game or put Oakland ahead.

And folks, that's not a random sampling of hitting, nosiree! That's clutch.

You go on with your bad self, Eric Chavez. Maybe you can teach that un-clutch A-Rod a thing or two this weekend.

Oh, there's a game today! We have some players starting, they have some players starting... there's probably a lineup...oh look! Here it is:

Kotsay
Swisher
Crosby
Thomas
Kielty
BRADLEY!!!!
Kendall
Scutaro
Perez

A couple of notes: Chavvy is out; hopefully just resting, Crosby is in the 3rd hole, and BRADLEY is starting!! Welcome back, Milton!

Sizemore
Michaels
Hafner
Martinez
Broussard
Peralta
Blake
Belliard
Boone

LET'S GO OAKLAND!

Is it true

that a batter can show disrespect to a pitcher by turning his back pocket inside out?  Big Frank did this last night during his second at bat. As he was rounding the bases his back pocket was flappin all around.  Can someone verify this nuance of baseball?

by Alejandro on Jun 7, 2006 3:44 PM PDT   0 recs

I have heard hitters say
that they do that to show they do not chew tobacco.  Don't know if this has anything to do with Frank or not.

Chavez was a late scratch
according to MLB Gameday he was in the lineup initially, but was dropped about 15 minutes ago.

by agentjordo on Jun 7, 2006 3:45 PM PDT   0 recs

Chavvy is not resting
late scratch due to a stiff back (says Korach).

Chavez is day-to-day. I wonder how many days.
I miss Bill King :(

Day-to-day?!? We know what that means...
He's passed on! He has ceased to be! He's expired and gone to meet his maker! He's a stiff! Bereft of life, he rests in peace! If Macha doesn't nail him to the bench he'll be pushing up the daisies! His metabolic processes are now history! He's off the twig! He's kicked the bucket, he's shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleeding choir invisibile!!

THIS IS AN EX-CHAVVY!!

Well we'd better replace him then.
Ooops, sorry. I've taken a look in the clubhouse and, uh, we're right out of clutch hitters.

I HATE Kielty
I hate seeing him in the lineup.  What a downer!!
My A's lineup: Rickey (LF), Dw Murphy (CF), Miggy (SS), Reggie (RF), McGwire (1B), Giambi (DH), Chavez(3B), Fosse (C), Campaneris (SS), Dick Green (2B).

Finally!
I'll be unchaining myself from this desk and watching the game at home!

by agentjordo on Jun 7, 2006 3:54 PM PDT   0 recs

Why is DJ not in the lineup?
Is it that Byrd (although a righty) is tough on lefties?  Why does Macha rest players just as they are getting hot?  He did that with Byrnes last year.

One thing I like about todays lineup is
that I think we could actually steal some bases today.  Byrd throws lots of offspeed stuff and VMart has been horrible at throwing out runners.  Seems like other then Thomas, everyone else is capable of swiping a bag.  Will be interesting to see if that plays a factor.

(Thomas could swipe a bag too... and no one would tell him to put it back)
