Rouse or Perez: Who's going down?

With Mark Ellis' pending return to the Big league club, one of three infielders will be demoted, Marco Scutaro, Mike Rouse or Antonio Perez.  We can just scratch out Scutaro, since there is no way he'll be demoted.

Star-divide

So it's left to Mr. .070, and Mr. Swings like he's underwater.

Pros for Perez:

  1. Has more major league expierience.
  2. Hit .290 last year
  3. Has to get somewhat better as the year goes on.
  4. Has played all infield positions this season
Cons for Perez:
  1. He's hitting .070
  2. He continues to go up to the plate with that stupid bat with the holes in it.
  3. From what I've heard is a subpar defender
  4. He looks stupid when he bats
Pros for Rouse:
  1. He went 3-3 in his major league debut.
  2. I've seen him make great plays in the field.
  3. He's stolen a base.
  4. From what it looks like, he's a good defender
Cons for Rouse:
  1. His minor league stats aren't mindblowing.
  2. Has almost no power, while Perez at least, has a smidgen.
  3. Might not have a quick enough bat for the majors.
Perez really needs regular at-bats, which he got with the Dodgers, since he probably either played or pinch hit 100 times over the season, he might be the best bet in the long term to stick him in AAA and let him play 5 times a week, and if he improves send him up in September, and put him on the playoff roster??? knocks on wood

Rouse doesn't project to be anything but a Marco Scutaro kind of guy, while I think Perez could be a 10-15 homerun guy someday, for the moment I think Perez should go down until he can prove he can hit higher than the temperature.

From what I've herd....
I don't know how true this is, but I've herd Perez is out of options.  If thats true then Perez is going nowhere because I garontee there are about 25 other teams out there willing to take a chance on an ex-(.300) hitter who is suffering from a lack of at bats. (Including the Yankies)  If anyone goes down at this point it will Most likely be Clark.

Clark
If Clark goes down, that would leave the A's with just one backup outfielder, no?

Yea, but...
Clark isn't producing.  We can always call up another outfielder, but our three back-up infielders are eather out of options and will almost definatly be pick up on waivers(Possably Perez and Scoot) or producing (Rouse).

my vote is Perez
because while neither has anything left to prove at the minor league level, sending Rouse down will almost certainly do him no good, but sending Perez down could help him find his stroke and he could turn into the super-sub i was hoping he'd be coming into the season. I do think however that Macha has missed a bunch of opportunities to see what kind of players Rouse or Perez COULD be by continuing to trot Scutaro out there when we know what he'll give us; an 0-4 with good defense. so far all indications are that Rouse could give us a 1-4 at least with the same defense.

Perez is a strikeout magnet.
Not just this year too.  Genrally has 3 SO per BB.

no way they give up on perez...
he has talent, i just think needs consistent ab's. i might be wrong, but his extremely spread out stance might be an issue, he takes no stride at all. also i dont think Beane will want to admit mistakes so early. if they gave ginter multiple chances before, they hold onto perez. he would be snatched up quickly if he gets on waivers.

perez can't be sent down
He was traded to us basically BECAUSE he was out of options.

So Clark goes down. Next is Rouse.

But wait.....
Doesn't being traded to the Royals count as being sent down to AAA?

Perez has an .853 OPS in his last 6 games.
Of course this means he's 2 for 11 with 2 walks (.182 Avg, .308 OBP) a 2B and a HR (.545 SLG).  Not impressed?  Oh.

But seriously, I don't really see what Rouse gives you that Scutaro doesn't.  Perez at least has some pop.  I've never seen the ball jump off Scutaro or Rouse's bat the way it did off Perez's on the 2B.  Also he seems to be a good fastball hitter (except when he's stinking up the joint of course), which Scutaro and Rouse don't seem to be.

I don't remember seeing Perez in LA. Did he
change his stance, or was he always trying to hit from the splits.  With him so wide, how can he maintain balance.  If its not a fastball he can never adjust.

It seems to me
that Perez' biggest problem is that he is "jumping" at pitches, so by the time the ball crosses the plate he is lunging meaning if he makes contact he will likely pop the pitch up, but more importantly he is not in a good position to see the ball--hence the many, many swings and misses.

His spread stance should actually help him avoid this issue, but then he is counteracting it by lunging at the ball when he doesn't need to.
