Trading in Tickets

Sorry to make this a diary since it is really just a simple question.  (Related point which also serves to make my diary long enough...it would be a great addition to this site/the SB Nation site model to have a permanent/sticky "Questions" thread where people can post quick questions without cluttering up the diaries or risk having their questions get lost in the game threads or other diaries).

On to my question...I recently bid on an A's ticket/merchandise package at a silent auction.  My husband and I along with another couple were going to enjoy a game in GREAT seats w/o kids for once.  Unfortunately we realized after we won the auction that the tickets are for Father's Day so we can't in good conscience leave our kids for that day.

Now really, my question...can we trade in these tickets at the ticket office for another date or must we sell them ourselves and repurchase equivalent tickets?  Not sure if it matters, but these are season tickets (just not OUR season tickets).

Thanks for reading through all of this and for your answers

You can usually trade in tickets for a future game (as long as the tickets you are trading in are for a game that hasn't passed yet), but you won't get the same seats.

Alternatively, check with the people who donated the tickets for the auction - can you switch for a different game?

A third option, check to see if anyone here on AN wants them.... <hint hint>  ;)

All great suggestions, thanks!
I have no idea who donated the tickets, I might be able to find out if that's a last resort.

My first inclinition was to offer a trade on AN but I have to admit that I got really burned on a trade last year.  I offered up a bunch of giveaways in exchange for a Kielty troll doll.  One AN member was first so I went ahead with it and offered my Kendall bobblehead in trade.  We agreed to mail out our trades in good faith.  I mailed mine out and he claimed that it was received damaged and w/o the catcher's mask.  I have no doubt that the mask was there (because I checked) and if it was damaged that it was because of the mail (and I packaged it well) so I said to send it back.  He never did and I never received the Kielty troll doll.  I'm pretty sure this was a member with multiple screen names and I'm pretty sure I know who it was but what can I do now?  That said, I'm not necessarily letting it sour me on future AN trades.

Here are the seats I have for 6/18/05 (A's vs. Dodgers): Sect 120, Row 14, seats 1-4).

That really sucks
I find it sad that even here you can still get screwed by people that are supposed to be fans and one large family type community

Spare troll
I can't use those tickets, but I have an extra Kielty doll that you can have if you still want one.  No exchange necessary.

I think I do too
I'll have to check when I get home...maybe we should have an AN freebee exchange place, where we can all trade away our extra stuff for the things we didn't get...

That
is an excellent idea!

Or freebies that we're sick of.  I'll trade my "St. Louis fans are better than Oakland" BobbleMulder for a BobbleHuddy.
You kids are cluttering AN with funny. Knock it off, NOW. I'm serious. No, really.

That is a great idea.
When we go as a family to a giveaway game we come home with 5 and would love it if there was an easy way to trade one of the extras for the games we miss.

Thanks for the offer!
But I ended up buying one for a couple of bucks on eBay.

I don't know, honestly
I think you have to be a Season Ticket Holder to trade in tickets, and they have to be part of your season ticket package...

But...

Every time I have done so, they have never checked my ID, or asked for my name for the Season Ticket Package, so maybe they just go with the flow.

I find the season ticket staff
to be very flexible about the way they do business. There may be parts of the front office that are difficult to deal with, but this is not one of them. Chances are you can walk into the office and make the trade without a problem.

I should elaborate...
Although this is probably an obvious statement, make sure you trade the tickets 1-for-1 (don't trade 2 MVP tickets for 6 bleachers or whatever). One reason they would not let you do the transaction is because they technically have to credit the season ticket holders account and then deduct the amount for the new tickets they issue. If they do a straight trade, then it might be okay, but if they have to dabble in the finances of the season ticket holder's account, they might have a problem with that (even if the season ticket holder comes out ahead).

I'm just thinking from that financial aspect, they do have a basis to deny you the right to exchange the tickets. But if it's a simple trade, I doubt they will.

Thanks...
I will try that.  We do want to simply trade them 1 for 1 so I hope it'll work!

Plus it'll give me a good excuse to get out to a game next week!
