Keith Ginter a Bullpen Call-Up?!?

Funny but true, Keith Ginter comes in relief, pitching for the Rivercats last Saturday.

His line: 2.0 IP / 3H / 1BB / 2R.

As Defrancesco mentions, the Rivercats are "battling" as the A's recent callups have depleted their roster.

I am just amazed how KG who 2 years ago was hitting a bunch of homeruns for the Brewers (19, 2004) has evolved not just into a utility infielder but a relief pitcher as well.

I guess the organization has to make sense of the money they are throwing into Ginter this year. I believe he earns around 1.5M.

Amazing--
the guy still outperformed Loaiza. Of course he was probably throwing harder.

WHIP
Loaiza 2.13
Ginter 2.00

and that even excludes Loaiza's phantom pitching performance in KC (the rainout).

2 innings??
Wow, that's almost more playing time then he got all of last year!

When was the last time...
this happened at the big league level for the A's?

For some reason or another, I'll always remember Mark Grace coming in for the Diamondbacks a few years ago and doing his Mike Fetters impression. It was the funniest relief appearance by a non-pitcher I'd ever seen...

in 2000, Menechino pitched an inning.

It was a big loss at Coors field.  I guess that Howe didn't want to shatter the mental perspective of any more pitchers and he threw Frankie out there.

Frank's line?

A whip of 6.  An ERA of 36.00.  Nice.

that's why Frankie never
succeeded as a pitcher.  Too many walks, no real out pitch.

He threw mostly knucklers.

Oh my God Thank You For RetroSheet!!!
I have finally found the box score for the first ever baseball game i ever attended. september 21 2003. i couldnt remember the date, or the opposition, just remembered the 12-0 score and that someone hit a grand slam. i finally found out that Ellis was the one who hit it...

I remember that!
It was a July 4 game I believe, and the Mike Fetters impression had me rolling off the couch laughing!

robin ventura pitched for the dodgers...
i BELIEVE he put up a scoreless frame, too.

He sure did
The really funny part was the scoreboard operators put up his picture w/ his pitching stats, and career 0.00 ERA.

Funny stuff

Didn't
Jose Canseco blow out his elbow due to pitching? Shows how dangerous it is.
