The A's and their depleted pen dropped a heartbreaker to the White Sox last night. But the truth was that I assumed the loss was coming once Huston blew the save. The White Sox offense is too good right now and the A's pen is too patchwork.
Any way, the A's send Los Kirk with a 2-1 and a 4.70 ERA to the mound to face Javier Vazquez with a 4-3 record and a 4.22 ERA. The White Sox rotation is that good right now that Vazquez is their fifth starter. That's impressive.
The A's send out this lineup to tackle Vazquez:
The A's haven't seen Vazquez much in his career. Kotsay has the most ABs with 29 and Payton is next with 23. Payton has a career .348 BA against Vazquez. But the rest of the A's haven't faced him much. Usually that means that the A's will struggle with him for the first few innings and if they break through it happens in the fourth inning or beyond. We'll see if that holds true tonight.
The White Sox send out this lineup against Los Kirk:
The White Sox have even fewer ABs against Saarloos, although Thome has three hits in four ABs including a double and a home run. Joe Crede also has a 1.350 OPS in eight ABs against Los Kirk. Not surprisingly, Mackowiak, the A's killer from last night, gets the start tonight.
LET'S GO OAK-LAND!!!!!!!
