Angels self-destruction update.

So last night the Angels Angels of Anaheimels blew chance after chance to beat the Blue Jays and lost it in the 10th, leading to clubhouse fights and yelling.

You might think that, today, they'd come out firing, determined to make it all better, right?

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers enjoyed a nine-run sixth inning and rolled to a 16-2 win over the Angels in front of a sellout crowd of 55,655 on Friday night to open the Interleague series.

The sixth-inning outburst was the Dodgers' biggest frame since May 6, 2005, and sent the Angels to a season-high eight games under .500.

Star-divide

The Dodgers (you know, the REAL Los Angeles team) scored runs in every inning but the first, and of interest to Oakland fans will be the guy who did most of the hitting:

Dodgers left fielder Andre Ethier went 5-for-5 with a home run.

But this isn't a time to harp on players we once owned who are now owning for other teams, now is the time to see what a Darin Erstad peptalk does for our division rivals:

The Dodgers blew the game open with nine runs in the bottom of the sixth when they batted around and then some, sending 15 men to the plate. Furcal, Garciaparra, J.D. Drew and Kent all reached base twice in the inning.

Choice.

So what do they have to say about this over at Halos Heaven?

Sigh. I told my friends that last night's game was a defining moment for this whole season. As much as i didnt want to believe it, tonight helped to prove my point.

This is some sorry ass shit.

i blame gene autry for starting this whole damn thing.

That last one is the funniest thing I've ever seen on HH.

Hail Oakland.

Watched the end of the game last night
and that was just awful to witness (even in my glee!).  The Angels seem to be imploding.
Baseball is life. . . at least that is what my sweatshirt says.

ya but be careful!!
lets not get to high on ourselves yet becuase thats exactly what the Angels were doing last year when we were 15 games behind remember? Lets finish them off now!

True
it makes sense for the A's to get some distance with the rest in the division as early as possible. Regardless of their annual ritual of piling up wins in the 2nd half, other teams can get hot too and make it happen (like Astros last year).

Agreed.
I won't feel comfortable until there's the 'E' beside their name.

After last season, I believe any comeback is possible.

"No. It's Oakland."

Seems to me that
the Angels are playing about as poorly as the A's were last May, and that the mood on HH is about the same as the mood on AN last May.

When the Angels get Colon back, they will have an outstanding rotation. Until we get Harden/Loaiza back, our rotation is only ok.

It's a long season, and the Angels are far from done. Every game of distance we can get now is key, because games can be made up in a hurry when a team gets hot.

I think the difference
between the May 2005 A's and the May 2006 Angels is that the A's had more upside in 2005 than the Angels do now, unless the Angels make some roster changes.

I agree--
but the other difference is that the Angels are 17-25, not 17-32, and about 5 games back, not about 10 games back.

But yes, if the Angels fall to 17-32, 10 games back they will not recover. It's just that they haven't sunk that far yet, and they have a lot of talent in just Colon, Vlad, Lackey, Escobar, and Shields/K-Rod, along with Kotchman/Kendrick--they could win a lot of games if and when things start breaking right for them.

Correction...
When we get back Harden/and Loaiza DOESN"T come back.

But  this is far too early for gloating over the Angels. They have money they could go buy some help later in the season. Their team is a lot like ours in many ways. Usually strong in pitching but needing more run support. I have a feeling they may get it together.

We need every win we can get. That's how they did it last year. They got all of those wins early and even with our amazing run we couldn't overcome that.

I really think that this is the season
that the Angels fall apart.

It's certainly possible,
and if so, thanks to a couple high-profile blunders (like the Napoli squeeze), Scioscia could go from deity to fired.

Ever done the "Napoli squeeze"? It's challenging, fun, and a little kinky, all at the same time.

hey nico
whats a napoli squeeze?

If you don't know,
then you've never done one. Anyway, you have to be at least 18, and you need at least one goat.

Is that similar to the half nelson,
the full nelson or the father nelson?
the great playoff miss of 2004 followed by the good try of 2005 But will 2006 do the trix?

It's more like
a Gene Nelson, in that it involves a relief pitcher and a morning DJ. And the goat, of course.

As I have mentioned before...
it's a great time to be an A's fan in OC.  All the Halo fans I know are going off.  The papers, the talk shows...
