Kendall Now has

the 3rd highest OBP on the team.

378.

Ellis is over 500, of course, for his past 9 games, so his spot at the top of the lineup seems pretty secure.

But I think Kendall is still the regular catcher 5 times a week.

Are you trying to say that's good?

Meanwhile, in Melhuse's limited appearances, his OPS is 849.

I'd rather see Melhuse playing than Kendall, but I'm just an objective fan. I can't imagine what it's like to have paid $11 million for Jason Kendall. Plus, as Louis fairly points out, Macha is probably just plain afraid of benching Jason.

less offense?

and to the surprise of those of us expecting much, much less offense from the catching position,

I was surprised with this comment. First, Kendall is not a lot of offense. Second, haven't many of us thought Melheuse could do at least as well, perhaps better? I think he's equivalent everywhere, with the possible exception of handling the pitching staff--just need to so more there.

Re: much, much less offense

It was intended to suggest that we had grown accustomed to very little offense from Catcher, and that the two bombs would be a surprise. Of course the comic suggests that Melhuse would out-hit Kendall. It's trying to say that homers from a catcher are an abberation compared to what we've gotten used to.
