We all know by now that Barry Zito as an Ace is a pretty perilous position. He pitches far too timid when the pressure is on, instead of trusting his stuff and letting it "rip" (at his speed, "rip" isn't quite the right term, but it will suffice).
So I was thinking about how we can motivate the Big Z into being all he can be in the next important game, and came up with an idea. Kendall can approach the mound for the following pep talk:
Kendall: Okay, no more Zen. Stop suppressing the emotion. It is time to visualize and attack.
K: You ever seen The Waterboy?
K: There you go. Visualize and attack.
K: I don't know. Pretend the batter is Alyssa Milano or something. Then channel that energy into your windup and pitch. Like female tennis players that grunt every time they hit the ball.
Z: Okay, I'll give it a shot.
K: You can do it!
Wow that was amazing! I've never seen Zito pitch with such ferocity.
Mama and coach are proud.
