Baseball, Fatigue, Sex?

First of all, this is a grownup topic.  All you young'uns around here, go play in the Daily Link Dump or something.  Mommy & Daddy are just having a private conversation in here.  We'll be out in a little while.  Yes!  You can watch tv!

For all you folks without kids?  This might not be for you either.  There needs to be a level of fatigue which I believe can only be achieved with parenthood for you to relate to this diary.  And maybe both partners should have a full-time job.  2 kids might be especially good for relating.  And a longish term partner, not one of them newfangled shiny new relationships that are just so exciting still.

OK then.  Here's the thing.  Baseball season is back, and I am happy happy happy about this.  But it does have certain affects that are not so blessed.  I am speaking, of course, about the game-doesn't-end-until-10pm-or-later-and-by-then-I'm-really-tired-honey situation.  That is to say, Mr. Lurker D and I have a lovely habit of listening to games on the radio in the bedroom after the kids are finally asleep.  But lo the fatigue and sleep doth often overtake us, and lo, well.  What I'm trying to say is that the sex life does take a hit during the baseball season.  And I don't mean it gets a home run, either, no!  You know what I mean?  Am I the only one?

I feel a survey is in order:

Baseball on the radio is an incredible aphrodisiac! The voice of Ken Korach really sends me and my honey - we do it right while the boys are playing.

I guess I'll chime in on this
the last two seasons of heavy duty A's (thanks AN) following has caused "communication" and "priority" problems with recent revolving door of g/f's.
the great playoff miss of 2004 followed by the good try of 2005 but BB's got the fix for 2006.

You think you have problems?
By the time games end out here on the East Coast (1 am or later), future Mrs. salb918 is sawing lumber in the bedroom. Sometimes, there's a choice to make - and I wonder if I have my priorities in order.

Forget it!  Haven't seen 1am in years (unless my kid is puking or something).  Damn good thing I have no plans to move East.

I'm gone in Sixty minutes... before you.
Hey I'm only up until 12:00 on a regular basis via Central time but I will now realistically start appreciating my additional 60 minutes of sleep!  You are one great fan, salb.

Lost g/f's are the biggest problem because I can sleep when I'm dead.  I honestly should move to Oakland where a girl of the same interests can actually be found.

Thanks goodness for the MLBPA
If it weren't for their insistence on at least one day off every three weeks or so...I shudder to think.  Luckily, nothing gets me and the missus waxing amorous like collective bargaining.  Super two players...binding arbitration...luxury tax...Fehr!  Fehr!  Fehr!  Fehr!   And asleep to the dulcet tones of Robert Buan.

I'll eschew the easy "getting to first base" joke.

I hear you, and I feel your pain.
There was no way I was turning off the TV before the game was over.  I just knew if I did I would miss one of the greatest comebacks in Oakland history.  Last nights game ended a little after ten.  My wife rarely stays up past ten. The light was off in the bedroom by the time I made it back there.  None for me last night either.  What was it Sal said about priorities?

Solution:
Baseball Sex!

Just do as the game, for lack of a better word, dictates.

A's get to first base, so do you...Second and so on.

There can be side bets, like, if Marco gets this hit, then I'll do x, and if he doesn't, then, you do x.

Hopefully there will be no shutouts, because a night with no scoring after being on base all game can be a new level of frustration!!!

While taint is everywhere and baseball is certainly no different, it's important that it be treated with open attention-Devo

Agreed
TiVo is a life and relationship saver.  I now have portable TiVo to go along with my hour train ride.  I can watch the first four innings of the 10:00 starts live, leave room for non-baseball related pre-sleep activities, then catch the last 5 innings on the train in the morning.  One hour is perfect timing when you can skip through commercials.  Extra innings will mean "working" with my door closed in the morning.

For me and mine
During baseball season, it was all about the mornings before the kids were up. During the rest of the year, you get back on a more night time schedule. You can snuggle in bed, watch/listen to the game, maybe ever catch some shows on Tivo if they are on the east coast, but then in the morning you take out all that frustration errrrr...enjoy all that excitement of an A's victory.

If you get going early enough, you may actually get to enjoy some peace and quiet in the morning, afterwards...

I guess I have to chime in on this one ...
I've got 4 little ones (the oldest is almost 7), and a wife that needs attention.  First, nice try on the priorities and choices SalB, but that ain't happenin.  You best figure that one out before future Mrs. becomes past Mrs.  Second, more often than not the wife is tired.  She'll go to sleep with the game on if you take care of her.
Here's how we do it:
Get the kids to bed early and service the lady before the 8th inning.  You can listen to the beginning of the game (dinner before the game starts, dishes and/or bath accompanied by Ken Korach - it's part of the routine), turn it off for bedtime stories, and a quick game check before going into the bedroom with your wife.  Get down to business with her, then turn it back on by the 8th inning or so.  Sure, you miss an hour of the game or so, but that's what you signed up for by having a family.  After sex, you can turn the game down to a whisper and watch or listen as your wife sleeps.  You miss some baseball, but at least you don't get your wife resenting you or baseball, right?  Don't listen to blowouts, but make sure she knows that you are turning off the game to focus your attention on her (as opposed to because it's a blowout).  BTW, baseball on radio before bedtime is an important part of getting the kids into it so they are begging you to take them to games, which is more compelling for my wife than me trying to convince everyone that's what we want to do on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.  But whatever you do, you can't deny sex to your wife.

i am in the no kids category
and lucky for me, my gf and i both enjoy listening to the game. If I'm watching the game, she's gonna be in the other room. But if i'm listening, we listen together and hang out. Like at the park, we are usually drinking, so by the time the game is over, we are usually raring to GO (and if we have tequila, look out!)

however,

I had to cancel netflix recently because falling asleep watching movies was worse. I can't believe how bad most movies are.

by popcornjames on Apr 7, 2006 11:29 AM PDT   0 recs

OK, something's screwed up here.
Baseball is great.

Orgasms rule.

I don't care if Harden's pitching a perfect game in Game 7 of the World Series, if my wife comes downstairs in something sexy the game is over and I'm headed to bed.

Or wherever she wants me to follow.

Not to be cruel or rude Mrs. D, but if you're asking the question "baseball or sex" than you're not doing the sex right! I've been married for nearly 5 years and we have a 3 year old son, trust me I know how tough it is to find the time and or energy for intimacy. I recommend purchasing the book "101 Nights of Grrreat Sex" by Laura Corn. 101 helpful and fun tips and scenarios to spark the imagination.

... and thankfully the gf understands my fandom/obsession with the A's (She's a baseball fan, my better half for my season tickets, and a fan of Ken Doll {she used to live in Pitt}) ... and if she's at my place, she's usually plugging away at work on her laptop while I/we watch the game ...

That said, short of the game situation being one of the following ...

1)Late innings, close Yankees/Angels/Red Sox game
2)Late innings, late season, close game, jockeying for division/wc
3)Road Playoff game (if it's home, I'm there)

... if 'this sex of which you speak' becomes a likely prospect ... TV goes off (come on, really, there are at least {I hope} 162 games to the season).
