Minor league seasons start today

Well, for anyone who is interested in this kind of stuff, most minor league seasons started today.

The A's are off to a promising start as Kane County had the earliest game and managed a 6-3 win.  None of the high-schoolers threw but Trey Shields had a quality start giving up 3 runs over 6 innings.  The lesser known high school draftee from last year Jutin Sellars did play and managed to go 2-4.

The A's double A team in Midland is in action right now and is up 2-1 with Jason Windsor taking on the first leg of Texas' famed DVD trio.  I'm hoping Windsor can do well this year.

AAA Sacramento and A Stockton play later tonite, so if anybody is interested in minor league action we could keep updates going in this thread.

Frequently updated box scores and game logs. It ain't Gameday, but it serves its purpose.

Gameday exists for AAA games.
Which means we get to watch Barton's at bats pitch by pitch. I'm excited.

Yay minor league games!
Minor leagues = A's life blood.

Anyone know why Lansford isn't starting in Kane County with the other young guns?

Why yes. I am a ray of warm and fuzzy sunshine.

Lansford
not starting in full season class A baseball as he has very limited pitching experience.  The A's brought him along very slowly last year.  Expect them to do the same for Carney's kid for another season or so.  Remember he was drafted essentially as an infielder which is what his dad wanted.  They want to build up the kids confidence and thus will go slow with him.

Are you sure about that?
He's more polished than Italiano, who's in Kane County right now. I'm thinking maybe Jared's injured?

by OaktownTribesman on Apr 6, 2006 6:34 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm thinking more...
..he'll end up in Vancouver after a month of extended spring training.

But that's just speculation. There are a ton of players still in the system that aren't yet assigned to a team, he's just one of dozens.

Cool
Hey guys, first timer here, I love following the minor leaguers. Especially the A's. I'm excited to see if Brian Snyder and Landon Powell can bounce back from their injuries last season. Remember these guys were both first round picks and Snyder put up great numbers at a pitcher's park in Kane County.

And here's hoping Dan Meyer can get things turned around and make the impending departure of Zito less painful.

Geico
It sure would be nice to have Dan Meyer provide some insurance for the loss of Zito.  I'm not off the Zito wagon but it really does appear that he has become a Jaime Moyer-like pitcher who is just not good at pitching like Jaime Moyer.  Maybe it won't be a huge loss from a statistical perspective??

Here is to Joe Zito coming in town and fixing young Barry's head again!  You shouldn't have your worst outing as the #1 guy in a contract year.

Jamie vs Jaime
I email a girl named Jaime quite often so I've become accustomed to spelling it that way lately.

No a great start to the season
like I for one hoped the minor leaguers would have.  But it was only opening day.  Oz, hope you will keep us informed as more minor leaguers are added or released from A's rosters.  Your site was my first stop near end of last minor league system.

Speaking of your site, it is not user friendly.  I have tried to register three times now and have finally given up.
