Does Blez = TRAITOR?!?

While visting Halos Heaven this morning, to see if all the Angels fans were crying to their mommies yet, I noticed an interesting note left by the Rev himself:

"Props to Blez for the new Halos Heaven Logo."

My god man, what does this mean? Is Mr. Tyler Bleszinski actually WORKING FOR THE OTHER SIDE?!? Has he an elaborate scheme to sucker all us A's fans into...uhm, I don't know...looking like a bunch of suckers or something? I think we oughta start watching out for this guy, he might hand us over to the British or something...

Perhaps you're not aware ...
but Halos Haven and Athletics Nation are both part of a single company ... that Blez is the co-owner and founder of.

I'd be willing to bet he'd even help the Yankees and Red Sox bloggers with their sites ...

He's not above such things, though.
I mean, look at the blogmaster he stuck Angel fans with. Given the overall quality of all the other blogmasters, I have to think the choice for HH wasn't random! :)

I think it was a shrewd business decision ...
his choice has drawn significant traffic to HH from AN to mock, bitch about and ridicule Angels fans and their less than statistically inclined leader.

Oh great...
now I feel stupid. Thanks for spoiling my fun!

Sorry ...
If you want, you can bash Blez for 'selling out' and trying to profit from his work ...

that could be fun.

Damned right!
And Blez should share his profits equally with his readers, too!  Maybe even offer at-cost-discounts for all the stuff being peddled by the sponsors of this website to anyone who reads this blog.  No one should profit and we shall all live happily because of it.

Hey, now!
This diary is no place for that sort of snark.

This, however, is.

I'll just go ahead and use this ...
as an open thread about the new HH logo.

The text isn't bright enough. It contrasts poorly with the halo. The outline of the text should either be much lighter or gone all-together its "aura" should be a little more pronounced.

Are you a professional designer
for your day job?  I'm just curious cause you always seem to have very specific criticisms of graphic art.

by Tyler Bleszinski on Apr 6, 2006 12:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Nope ...
I do a little bit of design for my job ... but mostly I do it for volunteer projects, on the side.

It's also a philosophical thing ... I think if you're going to criticize, you should also offer a positive solution/alternative to the problem.

but what about the apostrophe? the apostrophe!

..using the apostrophe earlier in the word had higher VORP (Value Over Rules of Punctuation)

And we know how the Rev loves his VORP.

Indeed...
The new HH logo is actually an apology to the Angels fans for saddling them with the blogmaster.  (Damn that 10-year contract Blez gave him.)
I'm not sober.

Speaking of New Logos
I still think AN Needs a logo improvment.

Someone bust out the Photoshop magic!

Zonis
I love the logo and it's not changing.  Sorry.  I actually think it's one of the best logos of all the SB Nation sites.

by Tyler Bleszinski on Apr 6, 2006 12:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Dare I say it...
..No. I won't say it.

But I will say I agree with Zonis. From a design perspective, the A's Nation logo, as much as it's close to my heart, could use some work.

Don't you miss the days of martinis and greenies?

The AN logo needs to go
I agree with Zonis.  A globe could stand for anything.  AN needs something people can associate with.

by tblazrdude on Apr 6, 2006 1:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Maybe I could make the logo
a photo of Banjo Guy?  Everyone associates with him, right?

Seriously, the globe is intended to represent the fact that this site has people from everywhere from Bahrain to Israel to Australia to Boston to Florida.  It's representing that this site makes the Athletics fanbase truly global for the first time.  Athletics Nation is truly global.

Other than that, we can't use anything "official" from the A's otherwise we could be looking at a lawsuit.  So, no official A's elephant, no A's and nothing like that.

by Tyler Bleszinski on Apr 6, 2006 2:20 PM PDT up reply actions

I like the globe
Especially the star where Oakland is. Gives perspective on the fact that baseball is a worldwide thing, and Oakland happens to own all of it.

PS, you forgot Philadelphia. I think there's at least 3 of us fans from philly on AN

by Alon on Apr 6, 2006 4:10 PM PDT up reply actions

The Star...
should be moved to Memphis in memory of Elvis...he too loved the A's (or so I heard)

I'm not a graphic designer
But I think that Halo logo is pretty sweet, actually.
I'll try not to swear.

I think it looks much better!
So now Blez should get to work on the Snakepit, the  Purple Row, The Good Phight, Brew Crew Ball, and Royals Review.  Those logos need lots of improvement.

What a stupid diary.
Definitely not spongeworthy.

I hope it gets deleted.

Much better HH logo than
old one which I thought was flimsy and weak.

Actually no, the new one's just better.

Pretty.
But the AN logo is still hella better.
