Hate-ability
I'm going to attempt to access the current "Hate-Ability" some Franchises. If someone says they hate the Yankees, their reasoning is that they go out and "buy championships". So to be as hate-able as the Yankees you must a)spend alot of money on FA and b)not draft your own talent. To be likeable you must a)draft your own talent and b)keep your talent for a long time. So here you go. Also players with bad reps would make a team hate-able.
Massively rich players (9mil+/yr)
Bos:5
Atl: 4
NYY: 10
OAK: 2
Sea:3
LAA:4 TEX:1 Bad reps:
Oak:Payton,Loaiza,Bradley
BOS:Manny, Schilling,Wells, Foulke
Atl: no one...anyone...Bueller?
NYY: Jeter, Sheffield, Arod, Giambi
Sea:Carl Everett, Matt Lawton
LAA:Colon,Erstad,Scoscia, K-Rod Tex:Frank Francisco Self drafted players
Bos:4
Atl:10
NYY:6
OAK:9
SEA:10
LAA:8 Tex:5 Tenured players (5+with the MLB club)
BOS:4
Atl:4
NYY:5
OAK:2
SEA:6
LAA:6 TEX:3 So adding one point for each rich guy and each asshole and subtracting one point for each homegrown or long time player these are the "Hate-Ability" scores:
Boston Red Sox:1
New York Yankees:3
Atlanta Braves: -10
Oakland A's: -6
Seattle Mariners:-11
Texas Rangers:-6 LA Angels of ANA:-6 What do you guys think? By the way this is in no way completely serious, just amusing.
Update [2006-4-23 10:31:29 by pbruins92]:Added Rangers and Angels to rankings. Angels are low, so my theory is obviously flawed

Maybe you could normalize
You could also track down events that made a team more or less hateable (Yankees acquire A-Rod..oh, wait, they hold steady at 100%), and calculate the BabyHateExp for each of these events.
Jeter has a bad rep?
Interesting study, though. I hate the Red Sox largely because of their fans. Is there any way to assess the obnoxiousness of a fanbase?
The Gold Club was clean fun.

Can we see some
value over choir boy - all hail Dale Murphy
Anybody see Senor Smoke drill Omar Vizquel tonight? Beautiful...stemming from Vizquel's book. Notice how the Giants weren't exactly backing him up?

I think retaliation will come...
Angels hateability
Plus the fanbase
I grew up in southern California during the 80's and 90's, and Angels fans were simply non-existent then.
I think I should add
Covers anything. Rally Monkeys, Steinbrenner, Ted Turner...
you're right
welcome, angel-fan bandwagoners -- now shut up and watch the game.
