Bradley's snub of Giants fans

On a foul ball during today's game, the ball bounched into the right field seats and was almost grapped by a girl. She missed it and it bounced back onto the field. Bradley grabbed the ball and, instead of throwing it back into the stands, he threw it to the dugout. Giants fans booed the ex-Dodger and he then tipped his hat as he walked away. Nice to see the rebellious side of Bradley, but I hope this is as far as it goes.

He threw balls
into the stands in Oakland yesterday, from what I saw. I wouldn't worry about it! He seems to be getting on well with the team and the A's fans, so that's good enough for me. Perhaps all the Giants fans booing him every time he came up to bat and all of that made him not want to toss them a ball? Just a thought.

the fans in SF were booing him
throughout the game. there's no rule that any player has to throw balls to the fans, especially not if he's an opposing player.

A girl dropped the ball and he didnt give it her?
Cmon....he may be getting booed, but that would have made some girl's day.  Give her the ball.

I wouldn't make too much of the booing...
He was a Dodger after all.  It's like after the Gnats shipped Aurillia to the Mariners... he was booed at the Coliseum just because he was an ex-Gnat.  :)

Would you prefer we spend out time...
making sweeping generalizations about Czechs based on one person's remark?

I guess not, that would be a pretty silly thing to do, wouldn't it?

yeah...
invade the Czech Republic.  That's next on the to-do list after all 300 million of us come to a compromise on the Bradley foul ball issue, heated though the discussion may be.

Worst comment ever.

You're so sure that Bradley
clearly saw who was trying to catch the ball and what team they root for? Though many throw balls into the stands, officially the players are actually supposed to throw the ball to the ballboy/dugout as Bradley did.

My God, give the guy a break.

Warning - name drop coming
I was fortunate enough a few years ago to spend an hour or so w/ Rick Peterson at Anaheim Stadium as part of a Mastercard promotion.  While not official, he said the players are encouraged to throw balls into the stands.

That may be; things may have changed
While I was in prof. baseball, there was a movement to discourage players from throwing balls into the stands. I believe there was even an automatic $50 fine--maybe just in the minor leagues, I don't remember--if you did. Even if this was limited to the minors, and is no longer in effect, you could certainly understand where a player might be habituated to throw the ball to the dugout.

But IMO, to nitpick as if a player noticed a particular little girl or her fan paraphenalia, or as if where he threw a foul ball said anything about the player, is ridiculous.

by Nico on Apr 3, 2006 8:28 AM PDT up reply actions

I can tell you at the low-A level...
..not only are players discouraged from throwing balls into the stands, but the Vancouver Canadians send a guy on a golf cart outside the stadium to go collect batting practice dingers.

Bals cost money, and the minor league teams don't toss money away easily.

That said, I like Bradley's move. If the away fans are giving you no love, give them none in return.

I would hardly
worry . Now if he starts dissing A's fans or the A's organization then I  would worry . He is a hot tempered one. So what ?

But about your current flavor choice, toasted almond? That's pretty bland, in fact, I blanch at the thought.
