Where are our former A's??

I have always wondered what happened to different members of the A's family.  Are they still in baseball either playing or coaching in the minors?  I was online tonight and found that Eric Fox is a hitting coach for the AA Tennessee Smokies.  Damon Mashore is with the Lancaster Jethawks.  I thought it would be a good idea to post any info to inform others.

Eric Fox
Wow. I have his autograph!
I can't remember what I was going to say, but I assure you, it was brilliant!

Eric Fox
When he hit that huge homer against the Twins I jumped in the air, but landed wrong on my ankle, severely injuring myself. Oh the joy and pain of that moment!

And it seems like
your blogging just hasn't been quite the same since. It's sad how that happens. :-(

by Nico on Mar 8, 2006 10:20 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I beg to differ...
...gojohn10's blogging has always been of high quality. It's just that you've become a hater because he doesn't write up his entries with a protractor in one hand and a slide rule in the other.

It's the little things that gojohn10 does well, the things that TRUE baseball fans appreciate.

You, sir, are a stat-worshipping hater.

How does he write
if he has a protractor in one hand and a slide-rule in the other? :)

(As an aside, the anti-stat crowd that portrays statheads as nerds with slide-rules is hopelessly out of touch with reality.  We don't use slide-rules anymore.)

see, here's a weird thing...
I actually have a slide rule, but I don't know why. I think I might have a mathematically-inclined evil twin.

No...
if your evil twin were mathematically inclined, she would have traded her slide rule for a TI-82 long ago.  Your evil twin is apparently a 1960's engineering student at the Oklahoma State University.

Mike Gallego
According to Wikipedia, Mike Gallego lost his testicles due to cancer.

I'm seriously not trying to be glib. I googled his name to find out what he's up to and this is all I found. TERRIBLE!

by kvn on Mar 8, 2006 10:57 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

poor gallego
Mike attended the University of California, Los Angeles. He lost his testicles due to cancer and played a 13 year MLB career. It is puzzling as to why a player of his lack of ability lasted 13 years in the majors. Yankees fans remember his time as second baseman and leadoff hitter with the team as some of the darkest days in the storied history of the franchise.

Gallego's signing
was the first free agent signing that made me hate the Yankees.  I know he was never that great of a hitter, but I used to love watching him patrol the infield.

There used to be a dave kingman website but it was removed.  I have no idea why he uses AOL.

That is effed up
You'd think that one the current day disgustingly wealthy tennis stars might help the guy because of his legendary status in the game.

I suppose it depends on how he got into this mess in the first place. No use giving him some dosh if he's going to blow it all on hookers and coke.

dude!
If he blew his entire fortune on hookers and coke, I'd send him $10 right now.

(Apparently, he had a clothing company that went belly-up with nasty financial consequences in the '90s.)

I found this little trivia nugget..
..trying to find out whatever happened to Don Wengert.

"4/15/1997: Scott Hatteberg of the Red Sox hit his first major league home run in Fenway Park but lost it to an umpire's call. The ball was ruled in play by John Shulock and Hatteberg only got to second base on the play. The hit came off Don Wengert of Oakland in the sixth inning and hit off a TV camera in center field. (Two batters later, Nomar Garciaparra hit a ball that was ruled a homer even though a fan seemed to reach over the right field wall.)"

Ron Darling is the color-man...
for the Mets TV team.

Jeff Newman did coach 3rd for Hargrove in Cleveland and Baltimore but is now retired.  His son is an agent, I think.

Where is Prieto?
