Why do many of us like the A's? I may not be corect but I think may of us can say that they like the A's becuase they are run extremely efficently, are young, and, basically are a "moneyball" team. Well as an A's fan who likes the A's for those reasons, I'm finding it harder and harder not to like the Cleveland Indians. Why? Well, they are young and figure to be good for a while, their GM, Mark Shapiro knows when to let go of players and when to trade them away and not overpay for them(see Jim Thome), he does a good job of finding value where no one else sees it (see Bob Wickman, Jason Michaels), and they're good.It could be argued that the Indians have done a better job of getting bang fo the buck, having a lower payroll than the A's and being slightly closer to the playoffs last year. I'm still an a's fan (don't worry) but I'm starting to like these Indians for the same reasons I like the A's. Also many of the Indians players are vastly underrated, like the A's. For example, did you know that Travis Hafner has the highest OPS of any player over the past 3 years. Really. And Jhonny Peralta had a better slugging percenatge than Miguel Tejada? Or that Jake Westbrook had by far the highest GB/FB rate among pitchers (he had like 3:1 next competitor was like 1.5:1)? Again I'm still an A's fan, and not suggesting Mark Shapiro is Billy Beane, but I'm seeing a lot of paralells between the A's and Indians and finding it hard not to like Cleveland. I'd like to see if anyone sees my point.
