The fantasy baseball advertising and discussing thread // OPEN THREAD

So since none of the fantasy threads can be recommended anymore, I've decided to make this so hopefully consolidate most of the talk (and not bump other worthy diaries off the page) and allow us commissioners who have yet to fill our leagues a space to get people to fill said leagues.

If you want to ask for fantasy advice, go ahead, and see how far you get.

If you want to play with this as an open thread, go straight ahead. I have no objections, and can't stop you. (Besides that, I cleverly hid "OPEN THREAD" behind the ellipsies anyhow...)

Well then...
I'll use some space then. I'll save the length of it though, since I have posted this already. Used to run a league, starting a new one. It'll be a free, Roto-style keeper league (15 teams, 20 man roster, 2 DL's, keep 5 players at season's end). I am kinda screening (nothing intense) who gets in, so drop a line in my e-mail box. I already have a few guys I used to play with, a few I still play with, some AN'ers, and all around good folks. The intent is to have fun, so if you are interested, please make sure you intend to be active, and intend to have fun. Thanks in advance.

JK
Where do you think Jason Kendall ranks among Catchers fantasty wise?

Now IMO it all depends on what the stat categories are. In the league I'm in (Athletics Nation #27) there are R, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB. I place him around 5th or 6th. The reason being is he will get TONS of ABs, and a bad avg, ops, etc isn't directly punished.

In a normal league with Rotisserie style I would place him closer to 10-12 range.

Getting a ton of AB's...
assuming he's batting 1st, yes?

ABs
ABs Rankings from last year

Kendall - 601
V. Martinez - 547
I. Rodriguez - 504
J. Mauer - 489

Macha still calls him a "top of the order type guy"
right? He also play a lot more games than most catchers.

I think he'll be first in this stat in 2006 as well.

In a fantasy league....
I'd rank Kendall way down the list..Getting 0 HR and few RBI from ny position hurts..Skip the homer call here and lock down a better backstop, plain and simple.

If there is a limit
of 162 games at which a position can have stats penciled in for it, it may make sense to have a type of catcher like Kendall - who will play alot - and then selectively sit him on days when he faces pitchers that he does not fare well against.  On those days where you sit him, look for the lower-second tier and upper-third tier cathcers [the ones in the FA pool] that are starting against a shlub pitcher.  You should maximize your stats at the catching position by following a stategy of not leave Games Played "on the table" because you were neglecting your lineup management portion of the game.

Ok I have too much time but
in the one man draft article on yahoo by Brandon Funston, there are more A's than any other teams (including NYY and Bos) unless I miscounted. This includes our entire rotation.  It just shows how well rounded we are.

a few spots still open in yahoo league
this is a new league, it hasn't been mentioned here on AN yet.
there are 8 AN veterans / regulars already in the league at this point.

i won't post the league info on here because we don't really want annoying people or random lurkers to sign up.
if you are a stathead-type ANer, email me if you are interested in joining the league.

Just a feeling...
We're gonna have a LOT of Zitos, Hardens, Crosbys and Chavezs going ridiculously early.
