A's Sign Alan Embree

Per Rotoworld
Athletics agreed to terms with LHP Alan Embree, who had been with the Padres, to a two-year contract with a club option for 2009.

Embree recovered some of his lost velocity last year after undergoing elbow surgery, allowing him to finish with a 3.27 ERA in 52 1/3 innings with the Padres. Also, he was no Petco creation, as he actually had a 1.91 ERA in 28 1/3 innings on the road. Still, he's not a very good investment on a mulityear deal. The signing apparently means the A's will try Joe Kennedy as a starter, which just increases the chances that he'll spend half the year on the DL.

Damnit. What can Embree do that Flores can't do much cheaper?!
