So far, the winter meetings have been more teacups (spinning in circles) than Mr. Toad's Wild Ride as it's been quiet times coming from the Happiest Place on Earth.
Maybe that changes for the A's today as Billy Beane arrives and saunter through the conference rooms to the tune of Pink's "Get This Party Started."
The rumors of what Beane might be trying to do have started yesterday with MLB.com claiming that the A's might be looking to move Joe Blanton for Lastings Milledge.
SI.com has decided to 1up MLB.com with a rumor of its own, claiming that the Mets will be seeking Rich Harden in a trade.
Now I'm not against the idea of trading Harden even though I love his stuff simply because of his injury issues. There should be legitimate questions whether Harden will ever remain healthy for an entire season at this point. And if you can spin Harden into a Milledge and another very good young starter or two with a better injury history, maybe you take the quantity over the potential quality.
At the same time, I don't see the A's trading Harden. Course I would never say never after the A's dealt Mulder and Hudson over a two-day span in December a few years back. But I just think that in order to trade a talent like Harden, even with all of his injury issues, you'd have to getting a ransom in return.
But the truth is that the Winter Meetings have been pretty slow so far. I'm guessing that might change today.
