I enjoyed Devo's diary awhile back about the best players of all time, and in the same spirit I thought it'd be fun to think about the best players right now. If you had absolute power, who would you put as the 2007 Opening Day lineup for the A's?
While this is admittedly hackneyed- after all, the point of the All-Star game every year is to identify the same thing- I think that there are some spots that aren't so easily set. Also, I think that different people may have different criteria: for example, it makes me borderline nauseous just having Bonds as close to Oakland as he actually is, but as was discussed a month or two ago many of you wouldn't have minded seeing him join the green & gold. (You'll also note that my list contains (I think!) no Yankees, since I abhor them, but it has plenty of Red Sox, which many of you might not want around.)
Also, I encourage you to change the rules: for example, try choosing a team only from players on 2006 AL teams or NL teams (if you really want to flash back to last July!). For the hard core fans out there, list your ideal 2007 Opening Day lineup for the Rivercats. I'd be really interested to see who you think are the up-and-coming players, particularly other than the guys in our system that you talk about sometimes.
Anyway, without further ado, here's my completely subjective list. Just for fun I'll list my second choices as well.
