LOL this offseason!

Wow! The Giants are really smart! No really. We are off again in a season where we are slated to finish 2nd to last in our division again. As usuall, I expect we will walk away with the west riding an excellent 2nd half and getting abnormally good performances from the unexpected sources. My list is as follows:

1) 126 million.....wow. What does SF know about our ex-2nd tier starter that the Yankees didn't?
I got an idea, maybe SF should really try to solidfy their rotation by offering Clemens 246 Million over the next six years as a bench coach with a start clause of 3 per year. That would make sense!

  1. I am hearing a lot of anti Giants smack, almost reflective of bitterness over this signing. Why? I know they get all the press in the Bay, but what could be better than the Big Market team across the bay pigeon holing themselves into a small market team over the next 7 years for a declining over-rated future middle reliever? Pro Dodgers? Anybody who roots for the A's and prefers ANY LA team is just deranged in my opinion. Anybody remember Kirk Gibson? Always duck the fodgers under any circumstance.
  2. Durazo.....Why do I have a feeling this is going to be huge? I believe in my heart this will be the push that get's us through Ruby + Pizza = the Frank Thomas anomoly.
  3. Zito not to Mets......then here we go. I think this will really help us in the pursuit of Milledge who now becomes a even less valuble in a trade for starting pitching. Do California DUI laws carry over to NY?
  4. Angels.......keep spending guys, I really think it's going to work out for you!
That's it for now....I hate the offseason.

My thoughts
I agree that the Giants are doing everything in their power to become a small market team, but Zito wont be a future long reliever.  Due to his durability (there is something to be said for topping out at 89mh), Zito will stay consistent for the longest of the big three.  Zito may never be a #1 starter again, but he should finish his career as a decent #2 or #3 starter.  Also don't forget Zito is going to a weak devision in the NL which will only help him.

Zito would have been great to keep at 10 million a year, but he's getting 18 million and that Johan Santana money...and lets face it...Zito will never be anything close to Johan Santana ever again.

Yup
Couldn't agree more withe the $$ issue, but even in a weaker division, 89 mph @ the letters is gonna get smoked, I liked Zito, (not as much as Huddy) but I really believe his time as a top 25 pitcher is comming to an end.

Big Market team across the bay...
I too agree that this will change. No one has mentioned the fan base changes that may occur when (and if) the A's move to Fremont. If Cisco happens on schedule it will be well before Zito's contract expires. Considering the average age of the Giants players and possible rebuilding without adiquate money, the Zito signing doesn't make sense. Thank God we've got Beane! "Lets Go Oakland"

Kirk Gibson
was the man.  That was one of the most impressive plays in baseball ever.

Broke my heart!
Very memorable, I mean damn, to think you could take enough pain killers and various other substances to limp up to the plate and hit that shot. Makes me want to take some drugs and overachieve. Duck the Fodgers always and forever.

I can't hate the Dodgers.
That shot made me a baseball fan, in a country where we saw no baseball outside of early morning World Series games a few times per year.

That I'm not a Dodgers fan now comes down to LA fans and their habit of leaving during the 7th inning stretch.

And Billy Beane.

To each their own....
Having grown up in Oakland, and splitting time between Oakland and Santa Cruz and now residing in San Diego, there are only two truths I have come to know, if you are from Nor Cal, you cannot like LA and two, I can really write a run on sentence!
