Zito in Forbes

I just saw this headline in Forbes online. "Rangers Want Zito's Decision This Week". I think out of any team I would Be most disapointed if he ended up in Texas, especially considering it's W's former team. I mean honestly at least on the mets he could play for Willy Randolph who I have the utmost respect for. Come on the Rangers??? Honestly!!!! Ugggh. Check the story if you want.

You don't have respect for Ron Washington?
In addition, if he goes to the Mets, we only get a sandwich pick for him (or is it a second rounder?), whereas if he goes to the Rangers, we get the best 1st round pick available (#17).

Please, Barry. Go play in Texas.

It's an interesting conundrum
and one that no matter who he chooses will leave me feeling sad and elated at the same time, so I say bring on whichever and we'll deal with it like only A's fans know how.

This is based purely on hopeful speculation, BUT..
I think it's strange, Zito hasn't been signed yet.  Why is he dragging his feet?  He should've had a HUGE contract by now, from any number of teams -- lets face it, some pretty mediocre players have already been signed for big numbers, and few of them are as good or as durable as Z.

Could he be thinking about trying to return to the Green and Gold?  Maybe he realized that money, really isn't everything?

Keeping my fingers crossed!

I think Boras
is trying to somehow get the Yankees and Mets into a bidding war for Zito...but both teams aren't playing. The Yankees refuse to show much interest, while the Mets won't go beyond 5 years or $75 million.

Meanwhile, rumors have both the Giants and Mariners possibly willing to give Zito around 6 years, $100 million.

He'll be a Met, book it
The Mets know that is where he wants to go, they have the bargaining power.  Trying to play up the Giants, Rangers or M's is Bora's attempt to get the price up but does anyone think he'll actually sign with those teams?  The Mets might give and add a year or more money but they won't match those teams because they know they are his top choice most likely.

Z to the Gnats
Zito to sign with the Giants?
Would spurn NY teams, Rangers, M's and Angels for the Geriatrics and stay on the west coast.

apparently this writer
doesn't know that Zito lives in southern CA.

The Texas offer as reported here is lower than I would have expected (6 years 80 mill), given that supposedly the Mets are willing to give 5 years 75 mill.

by OaklandSi on Dec 28, 2006 8:26 AM PST up reply actions

but the Giants offer as reported
(7 years, $126 million, possible additional year option to bring total to $144 million) is way more than anyone else has been even rumored to consider offering.

I hate the Rangers.....
....for the same reason. Although, I do love Ron Washington, but the other "W" once had this team, and they play in Texas, which is more than enough to hope that Wash doesn't pan out as a manager.....at least in Texas.
