Why are people shocked when teams move?

People seem genuinely shocked that the A's and now 49ers are pulling up stakes and moving south. I'm shocked as to why they're shocked. It's not like this was sprung on us. Both teams have been trying to get new stadiums with no success for 15 years in their respective cities. Both SF and Oakland dragged their feet and have done little or nothing to assist.

And this isn't even that new. When the Giants tried to get a new park back in the early 90's the city did nothing to assist lest we forget the Giants nearly moved to St. Petersburg. The Bay Area is a lousy place for public sport support. And SF and Oakland are particularly bad.

Frankly this was a long time coming and there is no one to blame but the leaders and to a degree the voters of both SF and Oakland. You reap what you sow, or in this case what you never bothered to sow. Now the teams are moving to where the money is and frankly I can't blame them. Both made efforts to stay in their respective but less lucrative locations and neither city saw fit to offer an iota of assistance.
