The biggest news of the day is obviously the Texas Rangers' hiring of former A's third base coach Ron Washington. We'll miss ya, Wash!
"I was shocked," Washington said by phone Sunday evening. "I went there thinking that they weren't going to make their decision, they just wanted to meet me. I just went there to be myself, and the next thing I know, I had the job.
"So," he added with a chuckle, "it really went well. I'm still trying to soak it in."
"You wanna see something funny," Washington says at one point. "Come sit with me in the third-base box and watch that s--- comin' at me. Nobody on this club know how to go from first to third."
Later, Washington adds, "Somebody on this team runs and gets his ass thrown out and you got all kinds of gurus who tell you that you just took yourself out of the inning."
I just found this... but for the love of god, don't call us the Fremont A's of Oakland. Fadedash has a separate diary about this subject here.
