jeter NOT the MVP - Ha Ha
Justin Morneau was just named the MVP of the American League.
I thought I would post this otherwise lame diary to express my jubilation in the fact that jeter (also known by ESPN pundits as the best player to ever set foot on the baseball diamond) was NOT voted the MVP of the American League.
Justin Morneau is the AL MVP.
Could this be the national media finally standing up to that joke of a network ESPN and telling them to shove it - (it referring to their man-love for jeter) or conversely, does Morneau truly deserve the MVP? I know this has been debated on AN many times before, but during an otherwise dissapointing off season to date (in my opinoion), this is great news. Derek Jeter - HA HA!

Three Words
Baseball writers (and voters) are addicted to this overrated statistic even more than the overrated batting average statistic. Morneau is a silly choice, but it is not a shock given his counting stats.

Gotta say ...
And if not him, I'd probably have gone for Santana.
But if we're going for everyday players on playoff teams, Derek Jeter deserved it. He was as good as anyone in the AL and considerably better than any player who played a defensive position.
Morneau may not have even been the third best choice on his own team. He was certainly behind Santana and Mauer and was arguably behind Liriano as well.
Howard's MVP was questionably, but this one's a crock.

There are only four offensive categories?
Morneau had large advantages in Slg and RBIs.
If you're into advanced statistics ... Jeter also blew Monreau away in VORP and WARP. Jeter accounted for 2.5 more wins than Morneau.
Jeter did that while playing.
Jeter, while playing on a good team, was also clearly the best player on his team.
Morneau while playing on a comperably good team was clearly NOT the best player on his team. Certainly Santana was better and those advanced statistics give Mauer a large edge as well.
