jeter NOT the MVP - Ha Ha

Justin Morneau was just named the MVP of the American League.

I thought I would post this otherwise lame diary to express my jubilation in the fact that jeter (also known by ESPN pundits as the best player to ever set foot on the baseball diamond) was NOT voted the MVP of the American League.

Justin Morneau is the AL MVP.

Could this be the national media finally standing up to that joke of a network ESPN and telling them to shove it - (it referring to their man-love for jeter) or conversely, does Morneau truly deserve the MVP?  I know this has been debated on AN many times before, but during an otherwise dissapointing off season to date (in my opinoion), this is great news.  Derek Jeter - HA HA!

This is unacceptable
Not only did Jeter not win the Cy Young despite his obvious mystical defensive influences on the Yankees pitching staff and his serving as an example of all that is great to Johan Santana, but now he does not win the MVP award.  McCarver will need a hug.

WTF?
Morneau wasn't even the best player on the twins.  Jeter love bothers me, but Justin Morneau?  I dont get it.  I really dont get that one.

agreed
It honestly seems like people chose Morneau just because they didn't want to pick Jeter, and Morneau was the guy who seemed to be the popular vote...

Three Words
R    B    I

Baseball writers (and voters) are addicted to this overrated statistic even more than the overrated batting average statistic.  Morneau is a silly choice, but it is not a shock given his counting stats.

Gotta say ...
I'd have given it to Hafner, despite his injury, because he was just that much better than anyone else.

And if not him, I'd probably have gone for Santana.

But if we're going for everyday players on playoff teams, Derek Jeter deserved it. He was as good as anyone in the AL and considerably better than any player who played a defensive position.

Morneau may not have even been the third best choice on his own team. He was certainly behind Santana and Mauer and was arguably behind Liriano as well.

Howard's MVP was questionably, but this one's a crock.

I forgot to add on Hafner, and apparently
you can not update the poll.  Shortly after posting this diary I realized that I would have voted for Hafner...oops.  At least it's not Jeter!

You gotta say
That at least Morneau had an improved avg. and did his job in the middle of the order.

Morneau was certainly a very good player ...
just not nearly as good as Jeter, Santana, Mauer, Ortiz, Thomas, Hafner or a few others

How was he not as good?
I know this always sparks debate, but I think Morneau was a smart choice for a change.  He was good in all four offensive categories and he was most valuable to a very good team.  Jeter just wasnt. Ortiz?  gimme a break...50% of his dingers are fly-outs anywhere else.  And its great that NYY and BOS got shafted....we've had to endure enough of the over-blown media blitz for years now.  Go AL Central and AL West!!!

There are only four offensive categories?
Jeter blew Morneau away in Avg, OBP, Runs, SB.
Morneau had large advantages in Slg and RBIs.

If you're into advanced statistics ... Jeter also blew Monreau away in VORP and WARP. Jeter accounted for 2.5 more wins than Morneau.

Jeter did that while playing.

Jeter, while playing on a good team, was also clearly the best player on his team.

Morneau while playing on a comperably good team was clearly NOT the best player on his team. Certainly Santana was better and those advanced statistics give Mauer a large edge as well.
